Help for over done shelving.

Hi! These shelves are making me crazy. To cluttered. Should I take out all shelves and do art? I like having family pics there but it’s to messy. Please help.

Those shelves are perfect for family pics. It is just that they are cluttered with too many other things. Take everything off the shelves. Decide which pictures you love and want to see. Are the shelves fixed or adjustable? If adjustable, I'd remove one shelf per column.

Then up picture frames on 1/3 of the shelves. Maybe 2-3 frames per shelf. Then select one object to go on the other 1/3 of the shelves. Then fill the remaining shelves with an object or a photo, depending on what feels needed.

I hate to say it, but no matter how much you declutter these shelves, that TV is sort of oldly places and will dominate this wall.

Google "How to merchandise shelves". Usually it is 1/3 art, 1/3 pictures, 1/3 books. The eye should move from top to bottom in a z-shape

^Agree with the 1/3 suggestion. What’s worked nicely for me is 1/3 each books, decor and open space.

This is one example that might be helpful.

I agree with Kendrah regarding the TV taking over the space.

The TV is the issue. Any other placement options? Do you need to sheetrock over an opening there?

Ideally, the tv is moved to another location and art is put in it's place.

On another note......I would add a color from the stone of the fireplace on the backs of the shelves. Then pick your pieces carefully.

The tv raises up to hide that hole when we’re not watching it. Thank you for the ideas. I will get to work on removing one shelf and go from there:)

The placement of the TV doesn't bother you??? You need a better solution for this room.

I am going to guess that the TV is on one of those articulating mounts that brings the TV forward and lower for viewing and then covers the hole when pushed back up.

If it is I would take another photo or you are just going to get comments about the hole behind the TV.

The way the TV is placed is a distraction. As for the shelving, you just need to edit things down. You don't need to take up every square inch of shelf space. Here are a few nicely styled shelves you can use for inspiration:

I understand why all the little pieces are bugging you, they would bother me too. You have a lot of nice architectural features in the room - the ceiling, floor to ceiling fireplace and built ins, but they're getting lost because of the TV placement and so many items on the shelves are demanding attention.

If you decide to remove the shelves and install art, you'll want to be aware of how it can change the room style and make sure it's going the direction you want. Another option is to relocate the TV from the fireplace to one side of the built ins.

IMO this stone-cladded wall looks alien in this interior.. And tv overlapping the niche of that wall.. Something is off. Shelving is a small problem. Maybe this wall will look better after small makover?

    example --->

this room looks similiar to yours

Thank you. I love all of your ideas. Except for moving the tv. This is the tv raised. A bit better?

here are some photos w/similar book shelves/decor items. you can try to mimic these.

Another suggestion is to remove your center piece between the shelves and do longer shelves. this would reduce some of the 'cluttered' look

Definitely declutter and simplify. You can do art if you want. But it’s an absolutely beautiful space!!! Lovely cozy space 💗

Yes, raised tv do look better

I don’t think you need to remodel your room. I think you need to reduce the amount of color on the shelves. You have a lot of color in the rest of the room which is nice but when there are a lot of small items with different colors I think that’s when it feels cluttered. I would take everything off and play with a more neutral color pallet on the shelves. The pictures have color so you will have some color but then the pictures are what draws the eye instead of 30 different things. After you do that then you can stand back and decide where you might want a splash of color to balance your display.

If the tv works for your family in this room I’d just do over the shelves. Ask a friend with a good eye to help- take everything off first and put back what you love. Nothing should ever be a static display in a home. Just keep editing and rearranging.

TV in normal position is much better! I like your use of blue and your Deerfield rug! I think your pics and nicknacks are too much all one size, sort of small which makes it look cluttered. Lots of good ideas already posted for arrangement.
