I like a good complementary color scheme of orange and navy. I like the way the area rug would tie it together. I hope you are able to get one large enough to fill your space. Though orange isn't a personal favorite of mine, I like what you are doing with it, and I think the bedding that shows more orange is more attractive to me than all orange or big sections of navy. Orange definitely makes your bed the focal point.

The rug should be positioned so we see more of it at the base of the bed. You want to see more of the design and the colors in the open not stuck under the bed.

Do you have another nightstand instead of that chair in the corner?

Don't use that overhead fan light. Get lamps for both sides of the bed.

IMO your basic sheet and top sheet should be either white or a soft teal color.. Create an interesting pillow arrangement to introduce some of the colors of the rug in your pillows.

I like to keep a bedroom plain and calm.

I’d stick to neutral colors for the bedding. Either white or beige.

Add pillows with some color and texture.

Add decor with some color.
Picture frames, plants, candles, books…

I agree with the previous commenter. For me the orange and navy colors are too strong to go with the rug, which is pastel.

Aisha, there are some people who like dull, bland, calming colors in bedrooms to help them sleep. There are others who like to wake up to happy cherry bright colors. Guess which camp I am in. I think both or a mix are fine. You have to go with what you need. If you need help sleeping, or if you need a little cheer... Follow your bliss.

I would do a more neutral base like an oatmeal or cream with coral/navy accents. Even some yellow could look nice! It would make it less matchy matchy and more cohesive and intentional. If you wanted a coral bed I’d go a little more muted, like a faded peach or something!

Do you really need the rug under the bed? You have pets consider how you will vacuum under the bed. I recommend a runner on each side.
