Why not refinish what you have?

We have solid wood mirage floors, cashmere finish (no sheen). Love them! color is "carmel"

@jck910 thanks for the reply. I have 5-6 different different types of floors in my house - some are original pine 2.5 inches, red oak 3 inches, 5 inch distressed maple, 7 inch vinyl or engineered. They are also different stains - dark, red, orange etc. Since I’m renovating, I’m hoping for more consistency which replacing will hopefully accomplish.

You prefer hardwood, and that's fine, but if you live in a damp location, or you want to wet mop your floors, go engineered. No chance of buckling from moisture.

I have hickory, saddle stain, Homerwood, engineered. Love the look..

@elcieg I don’t know enough about engineered wood floors. The house has solid hardwood so was looking to replace and the local store said hardwood was better but I’m open. I just want the right look and for it to be timeless and last. I’ll look up homerwood now! Thank you!

If you are doing solid, I would have them stained and finished on site, then your floor professional can better get exactly the look you want

Thanks for the response. I don’t have pets and my kids are grown. This would be for the first floor of my house. My house is currently under renovation but I can add a floor plan of the first floor which currently has 3 different types, size and color wood floors (4 if you include the stairs) and old pics of 2 rooms which show the floors. Ignore the paint color. My goal is to have consistent floors (size, type, color) on the first floor.
Walls will be BM super white. House is 124 years old

@User thank you! I was thinking prefinished would be easier but we’re not living in the house so staining may be better. Is there a stain you recommend that would accomplish a color similar to what I posted? Thank you!

That wood work in your home is to die for! Honestly, often part of the charm of older homes is the "evolution" of different types of hardwoods over time - are you completely opposed to sanding the existing hardwoods down and refinishing in the same stain? The ones in your pictures look to be in great shape and definitely fit the feel and age of your home. Could save you a lot of money and headache and end up looking great - just a thought. Whatever you do, please avoid putting in wide plank engineered wood floors (that are everywhere right now) - vintage hardwoods are incredible elements in older homes. Newer wood floors can zap the charm right out of an older home IMO.

@JP L I get it but the inconsistnency is driving me crazy and I am already renovating so now is the time to lay down the floors. I don't want to refinish - too many types, sizes to consider from room to room (when I combine both floors, there are 7-8 different types of wood/stains/sizes) Owners picked different wood for every room and I don't like that. I want solid hardwood - anywhere from 3-5 inches ina medium brown. Nothing too dark or too light. White Oak seems to be the answer. The question is prefinished or raw with a site finish or clear stain. Thanks!

If you want to stay somewhat true to the age of your home, site finish is the only way to go IMO. White oak is pretty classic - there are multiple medium brown stains to choose from. It's hard to tell, but your inspiration photos appear to both be unfinished/pre-stain (the top being white oak and the bottom potentially red oak).
