What color flooring would you put in this cabin?

Hello,

We are in contract on a purchase in lake tahoe and are having trouble deciding on new flooring colors. Our goal is to go with an modern cabin feel. We plan to paint the walls agreeable gray, have white trim and ceilings, and modern dark bronze fans, doorknobs, hardware etc. We will also change the banister to the modern horizontal tension wire black metal finish banister. We plan to keep the yellowish pine wood trim in the photo below forever, and plan to keep the greyish stone/fireplace forever, but plan to change out the kitchen in 3-5 years, so the kitchen cabinet color is a non issue. The pine wood on the wall is where we are being thrown off.

We went to home depot and did some research on agreeable gray and determined a darker floor color would work best with the pine, see our top four wood colors. We also think matching our floors to that top large beam would work great (like a dark walnut?) Does anyone have any feedback on what would look best to bring the room together? Or could anyone do a quick rough photoshop with different floor colors? I used houzz a lot on my first home remodel and everyone was so helpful, so thank you in advance!

Agreeable gray is very warm and quite light. It’s a gray only because it is not saturated. I have it my kitchen with dark stained white oak floors that are very similar to your first photo (white cabinets). I couldn’t read the name on it. Don’t do floors stained gray, but try to keep it a classic stain color. Gray wood is already dated. “Medium” brown is probably the most timeless, but an unstained white oak or darker brown can also be classic. Make yourself a mood board and put all your finishes together and see how they look.

IMO gray walls do not work with any of the choices you show. I also do not think ORB is a modern choice and since you are thinking black for the staircase IMO all black hardware too.What is wrong with the floors that are there? BTW if planning a new kitchen make sure you get enough of any flooring to do the kitchen later . IMO leve the floor as is and change the wall color for now then when ready do the kitchen and the floors . I never think a huge expense spent on a place you have not lived in is a good idea. The pine wall remove it it should not be driving the bus for sure . I know it is pain to wait but believe me better to wait then make huge design mistakes now . Wall color last thing to decide .

Can't the existing floors be refinished? If you have darker floors and Agreeable Gray that will be much darker and less warm than the way it is now. I like medium brown floors because they transcend trends, but I like the white walls and ceiling that are there now. The stairs definitely need an upgrade and the pine around the window can be removed. If you like everything dark and gray then carry on. Everyone doesn't like the same thing - that's why there are hundreds of different paint colors. :-)

The existing floors are very old laminate, warped, and have a lot of damage and scratches. the realtor did a great job in making them look the way they do in the photo, but they need to be torn out.

Also, the ceilings and walls are much more of a true yellow than a white. the realtor, again, did a great job editing the photos. All the walls and ceilings throughout the home are the same color. you can see some of the yellow walls in the photo i posted. not sure how he made the other walls look white.

No cool (blue-) gray walls or floors, too cold for a cozy, woodsy cabin.

Medium brown floors will go with just about any color.

Agreeable Gray is on the warm side of grays.

I would not change floors before kitchen. If it needs change, do it first. Also don’t say forever in any design choices....

Seems like everyone prefers the lighter colors. We were going for a color scheme something like the below photo.

This is a beautiful space, and your inspiration pic helps give us context. Planning a cabin renovation is overwhelming, and Houzz is definitely a great resource. All of the flooring options you show are beautiful in their own right, but when you are selecting flooring a huge consideration is maintenance. Dark floors show more, but a medium-toned floor (that hides dirt better) might not give you the more dramatic look you are going for.
