Before I would design a bar, I would decide how I wanted to use it. How much company do we have? How many of them will want to sit at a bar and drink? Who else will be there and do they want to be looking at the backs of those at the bar? Do I want drinking to be the main focus of the room? How old are our friends? Do we know all the parties will be at our house? Can we afford to provide all that alcohol? Would we be better served with a small built in bar agAinst tHe wall with a wine fridge, soda fridge, storage for nice wine glasses, and a few good bottles? For the record, we have friends with both. Next door neighbors, they each assessed their needs and planned accordingly. If you are only going to watch football with three friends and you all want to sit at a bar, you need to plan on a tv behind the bar. If you sit on sofas and chairs around a coffee table while sipping a great cocktail, you might want a bar on one wall, with only a stool or two. You have room for a pool table and then you would want tall chairs and a cozy table to set your drink while you shoot. This will take some planning like a kitchen does. Your parties are not like my parties and neither are like my neighbor’s requirements. Spend time thing about how you want to entertain.
