Need design help with primary bathroom lighting and mirrors
Husband and I are going to remodel our primary bathroom soon. (We plan to sell our house in 5-10 years, but until then want to enjoy the updated space.)
Bathroom has recessed lights in ceiling. There are four recessed lights above the vanity. My contractor says they were installed too close to the plate glass mirror and he will move those four a few inches backward for better lighting. (Disregard the reflection of those four lights in the mirror.)
We're keeping our existing solid-wood vanity (3 pieces which side-by-side are 96" wide) and having it painted a cream color. Will change cabinet hardware to matte black. Will have two undermount sinks installed in same location as current sinks.
Will replace giant plate glass mirror and hang two framed mirrors, one over each sink. I'm looking at rectangular mirrors with a narrow metal black frame in 24" x 36" mirrors and 20" x 36" sizes. The narrower mirror (20" wide) would give me more room to the right of the rightmost mirror to install a wall sconce. I love the look of a mirror with a wall sconce on both sides of it. Wall sconce I'm considering is a one-light black metal with an off-white fabric shade. (Having trouble uploading photo, but it's the one-light version of the two-light sconce in these photos.)
Questions:
1. Assuming I keep the existing four recessed lights above the vanity (but have my contractor move them a few inches backward), would it be too much to also have four wall sconces (one on each side of the two mirrors)?
2. Is a 20" x 36" mirror too narrow for the sink and space?
2. Should I nix the wall sconces and instead do only a statement mirror above each sink? Current lighting is adequate; wall sconces would be primarily decorative. If so, I like the Uttermost "aged" black mirror shown in my photos. Your thoughts?
3. Instead of four wall sconces, should I get a two-light wall sconce in the middle of the vanity, i.e., between the two mirrors?

PRO3 years agolast modified: 3 years agoI like what you have but would simply replace the countertop, sinks, and faucets.
If you want to use sconces, the sinks must be moved from the current location in the vanity as there is not enough room to mount the sconces.
I would select taller mirrors for this room.

Thank you! I hadn’t considered eliminating the four overhead recessed lights, but maybe I will do that and add four wall sconces. Here’s the one that’s the front runner (was having trouble posting it earlier). And you’re right about being able to move everything over a few inches w/o changing plumbing. My contractor just suggested doing that.

IMO Crate & Barrel & CB2 have some really unique wall sconces for the bathroom. Mirrors also.
