Noise barrier for painted basement ceiling

If you want to leave a basement ceiling open and paint everything black, what is the best option to use as a noise barrier? Would black acoustic foam insulation work? Any other suggestions? I like the open basement ceilings, but don’t want to hear every footstep upstairs
