As part of our addition project, the concrete pad/porch was removed which is allowing us to finally address the skimpy roof supports. They used to have interlocking bricks without mortar at the base and a low wall of the same brick between them. Since the new concrete will be poured soon, we removed the bricks and discovered the wooden posts are just sitting on a board. We know the posts would look better if they were more substantial but are stumped as to which direction to go. Any suggestions are appreciated.

To be clear, we are well aware the yard needs to be addressed. We are clearing 4 to 6 feet of vegetation around the perimeter of the house and installing stones. We also need to do some clearing but this is a home in the mountains and we plan to leave the property more natural (but better than it’s current state.) The front door will be painted green some day, or so the GC keeps promising me. The pile of construction debris will also be removed. The house sits approximately 6 feet lower than the road so the house isn’t easily seen from the road.
