Skinny crown moulding dilemma

I'm going to be renovating my kitchen starting this week. My new cabinets will go up to the ceiling with crown above. This large window is complicating things. Should I stick to the same size moulding shown below or can I make it thicker so that the new crown would rest on top of the window trim?

I am guessing that you will have cabinets on either side of this window. If so, you can make a flat cut on the jambs and put a larger 1 x across the top of the window filling the width of the cabinet. Then you can return the cabinet crown around the top of the window. Most times we hold the cabinets far enough off the window jambs to just return the crown to the wall.

The crown moulding needs to be matching. If you can replace the crown moulding shown in the photo it would be great to increase the width but you really need to have matching moulding right through the house.

Actually there will be no cabinets on that wall. The window sits right against the corner. There is a few inches of drywall that you see on the right and then it's the back door.

If there is nothing to limit what you do, other than the ceiling, you should look at some interesting trim package to use the window as an accent. A wise Architect once told me if i can't hide it, Flaunt it!

I know, I know. The window is too big. The previous owner installed it a few years ago. It's not in the budget to replace it. I appreciate your ideas though!

I have the exact same problem and there's no enough room for window trim plus a nice looking crown on top. What did you end up doing? If I use something different on top of the window, can I use different crown moulding for the same room? Thanks.
