First I would never close of windows in a space .IMO remove the pony wall but of course that means fixing the floor I need a to scale floor plan since I cannot see why the sofa has to go there or where the TV is going the pictures are distorting the space . I would have the TV on the far wall with the boarded up windows. A system of built ins would work. You could have the built ins and the windows. Just integrate the windows i to the design. Center the TV.

Center the aofa facing the TV but not against the wall. Float it in the room where it is the right space away from the TV. Add a couple chairs that relate to the sofa.

On the pony wall, set up a sideboard or cart or dresser as a bar or toy chest, depending on your time of life.

I'd keep part of the pony wall or part of the full wall so I could place a TV in the corner. Don't devote the big large wall to housing a TV.

I don't think placing the TV on the big wall works as well for circulation and seating.

Patricia, what do you mean about a to-scale layout? That one I posted above should be to scale. The room is 15' x 17' but yes the photos do seem to distort the space.

The other idea I had was to possibly close the doorway between the Living Room and Family Room and make that wall the TV wall. But I dont love the idea of closing off that living room and I also lose the ability to watch TV while at the kitchen sink. See updated FP below for a rough idea.

I haven’t forgotten you. I am working on it. I was finishing up another project. I hope to start on yours tomorrow, Thursday. Since you are in the renovation stage I would like to suggest that you remove the “pony “Wall. Removing the wall will allow you to have unencumbered access from one room to the other rather than having to go around the wall. The living room furniture will fill in the room and keep it from feeling as if it is too open. Best wishes.

Don't close the wall between the living room and the family room. It reduces the amount of light in the two rooms and impedes the flow of people if you ever have a big family get-together.

I've provided two layouts for your room. See above. Do you have furniture to place in the room to see how these layouts work? One works best if you don't mind not seeing TV from the kitchen. The other arrangement allows you to have an oversized TV on the wall.

I would put the windows back in...natural light is so important and put the sofa on that wall. With a little bit of effort, put the t v on the pony wall.

A neutral wall paint would freshen everything up. Don't do accent walls.

Forgot to mention that the area underneath the TV is a padded bench seat. You can pull the chairs out into the room, and people can sit there as well.

I like your suggested layout too. I would maybe put the chairs somewhere else so more people could see the TV or entertain a loveseat in there as well. Would love to see other ideas too.

5. Two floor lamps on either side of the entertainment center
6. One 10' by 10' area rug
7. One large wall mirror to reflect natural light back into the room from the sliding glass doors.
8. One entry table with a mirror over it and a plant. An extra place to put snacks for guests.
9. One large, padded leather ottoman with storage for toys, blankets and so on but it can also be used for additional seating for guests.
10. One long couch table with storage baskets underneath for toys, etc. for the children.

In this one you can see the storage bins/baskets under the couch table and in the entertainment center. You can also see two battery powered lamps. That is unless you can install a floor plug. We did that in our great room in three locations for holidays, lamps and so on. It has been really helpful, rather than having to drag an extension cord across the room.

This is another rendition with a change in the chairs and couch. In this rendition you will see:

1. One large couch that seats 4 to 5 people
2. four light weight leather chairs that can be repositioned for better TV viewing.
3. Four small black side tables.
4. A large couch table with drawers and a shelf for storage bins or baskets for the children's toys, or anything you want.
5. Not in this rendition but you could also use stackable, folding chairs or the kitchen table chairs that can be added to the room when guests arrive. Just a thought.

All else remains the same. Please know that only the placement of the furniture, not the colors, styles of the furniture are being suggested for your consideration.

I am suggesting that you and your wife check out the Bush Business Furniture sectional Couch with a double chaise lounge for your living/TV room.
