TV Wall Built In Ideas

We just moved into our new home. The great room has a large wall which will be where the TV will go. I’m looking for ideas for some built- ins to make this wall more interesting. Would love to corporate an drop down cabinet that can be used as a bar. If you have photos of ideas You could share, I would love to see.

6 years ago I put in built ins around my fireplace for a TV.

I regret it.

I wish I had ripped out the fireplace, all the brick and kept the wall plain. A designer convinced me to put in built ins (at a HUGE price) and paint the brick fireplace. My GC was happy to do whatever I wanted but assured me he could rip out the fireplace for the same cost I had spent on the built ins. Wish I had listened to him.

The sweet thing about built ins, is they provide a great place for art, books, bric a brac. And with a family you can create place to showcase fun memories. And I have done this with Hole in One photos, kids hand prints and fun memories of skiing.

My friend did somethign very similar in her family room. But not barn doors. Her built ins close up everything and it looks gorgeous. It hides the books and the TV but opens easily to doors that slide in so it can open up the entire space. I wish I had a photo but this below reminds me of her space.

Sorry, but you're not going to use that small TV in this room forever. Built-ins are $$$ and they limit future flexibility.

A lot of go big or go home suggestions??? Because there isn't a bult in already I have to wonder how it would meld with the rest of the room/home. If you buy components that build a look they can go with you when you move.

Thanks for all the ideas. I want to try to get away from putting my tv on a console table, but don’t want to just hang the tv on the wall without something interesting on the wall. Don’t want a lot of bric brac on shelving. Going contemporary and looking for something simple that does not limit me in the future to a particular size TV.

You could potentially look at getting a large cabinet to place the TV in and close it up when not in use. That would be the easiest thing to do if you are wanting it to be attractive, movable, and easy to hide. However, many people do love long and low consoles for under TVs. No regrets with the built-in I had customized for my empty wall. The whole unit is 17 ft wide and 10 ft tall, and I have space for a 75" The Frame TV. Not worried about any changes in technology! I like having the space to display things I have collected from family and travels. The closed section houses games/toys for visiting family & kids.
