Is there any hope for the ouch couch?

I'm considering replacing the couches. Should I get a 3-seater and keep one of the current 2-seaters? What do you think about the L-shaped couch? Would it be a better option for the space? The local furniture shop can customize it by changing the direction of the L-shape if necessary. I'm willing to change the chairs as well. We need seating for six people.

These couches are no longer in the home.

I'm sharing these photos to show what the living room looks like.

When you say 6 people, do all 6 want to be snuggled up together all the time? And focused on one wall ( TV for example). Because that would be the L shape— it really only sits 3 adults ( allowing for all to have back support), though accommodates more if is adults + small kids snuggling. Or do you want to be sure some of the seating is in a “ conversation “ arrangement?

So it’d be good to think beyond # of “ seats”, but more specific as to “ sitters “ and their activities.

Plus I’m sure someone else will notice, the 2 loveseats shown right smack perpendicular to each other is not how to do perpendicular — you need some space between because 2 peoples’ legs cant be in same space.

Did you ever post room measurements? That usually gets more help.

    I fixed your TV wall

Art would be better on the wall instead of a mirror.

This home is a vacation rental in Paternoster, South Africa. I don't know which seating configuration guests might favor. What seating would you prefer if you were to rent this space?

I would think more of comfortable sofa and comfortable chairs that can be reconfigured, with end tables/ side tables, & could have a “ feet- proof” coffee table if sofa faces TV— configuration to be determined by the rooms dimensions , pathways. A sectional or L-shape tends to be more family- specific.

Thank you for fixing my TV wall, Beverly!

The mirror reflects a beautiful part of the view outside. Regrettably, this reflection is visible only from a specific position at the kitchen table.

Rarely will more than 2 people sit on a sofa of any length unless they are kids or if it's a party crowded with people. I would keep maybe a longish 2 seater (3 in a pinch) and some comfortable chairs and maybe a recliner for a rental.

What does "need seating for 6" mean? Nightly or when you gather? It would be unusual for anyone to want to or enjoy sitting in the middle of a couch. I hate my son's L shaped monstracity. Everytime anyone moves we all feel it. They only makes sense is super large spaces where you also have other options for seating.

You had another thread, everyone remarked on the dark sofas why start yet another thread?

Buy two comfy sofas and keep one chair. You don't have room for more, and when the other place is the floor? Yes, someone will sit in the middle

Because this is a vacation rental, I'll assume everyone sitting in this space knows each other well and has agreed to get pretty comfy together. Get 2 - three seater sofas. Arrange them in an L shape with an end table meeting at the corner of the L. You'll need a smaller end table than what is there now.

Two seater sofas are never comfortable for two people to sit in. They end up just being very large chairs for one person. Get a sofa with slender arms. The current sofas, and the one at the furniture store in grey take up way too much room with just arm space.

In answer to your question, Jan:

I thought it would be best to align the content of a post with its heading. I apologize if I violated any Houzz rules. I prefer to keep things organized as it helps other users when they search for specific topics.

Anticipating a discussion on green kitchen tiles but ending up reading about swimming pools might be frustrating. I discovered Houzz when I searched "Should I paint my ceiling white" on Google. If the answer to my question was buried in a thread called "Let's tile the bathroom yellow," I would never have found Houzz.

Could you kindly explain the importance of consolidating everything under one thread? I am willing to comply because I want to contribute positively to the community and follow the rules.

I'm actively searching for better couches. Something with a lighter fabric, as suggested. I also want the furniture to be lighter in size as you mentioned. I don't want to end up with Tetris pieces again :D

I've seen guests post photos where they are lying on the couch in front of the TV and taking pictures of the view from said couch. So, I think a 3-seater in front of the TV will work well. This way, they can watch TV and enjoy the ocean view while lying down comfortably.

If three couples rent the home, the third couple might feel they aren't getting the best deal when it comes to the seating arrangement. Having a three-seater and a two-seater plus two tub chairs might solve this issue.

One tub chair can be placed on the other side of the room by the TV, and it's easy enough to move if all 6 people want to watch a movie.

The two tub chairs can also be moved in front of the fireplace more easily if a couple might want to do that during winter. I know that guests have moved the larger couches in front of the fireplace during winter.

Perhaps tub chairs may not be the best option. What if I reupholster the two chairs that I already have?

That looks wonderful! Great color choice. No need to apologize for starting a new thread for this dilemma. Jan is not the forum police.
