Thoughts on kitchen cabinets

Hi folks,

We're undergoing a full kitchen remodel. We're in the process of doing the demolition (still got half a wall to go) but would like some thoughts on my cabinet placement decisions.

Here's a rough sketch of the kitchen - let's call the wall that the fridge and stove/oven are on the "north" side of the kitchen.

My original thinking on the north wall was to do (from left to right): fridge, cabinet, stove/oven, cabinet. The island adjacent (going east to west) would have the sink and dishwasher. The south wall can have some tall cabinets for pantry, appliances pantry, coffee nook. Here's some drawings (not true to size) or what I was envisioning.

However, coming from the "east" side of the kitchen, we have a nook area with large windows giving a lot of light. When you walk into the house (from the west) and you're looking into the kitchen, I think 24" tall cabinets might close off the room a bit. I'd like thoughts on whether I should keep the tall cabinets idea or do open shelving with base cabinets, etc. Here are some pictures of the room itself so you can understand what I mean by the lighting.

This is from the entry area looking towards the kitchen. The "south" wall of tall cabinets would be coming from the right wall.

This is the "north" wall where the fridge and stove/oven will be.

This is the "south" wall of where I would put the tall cabinets.

Thoughts on the "south" wall of tall cabinets vs other options? And/or thoughts on any of my kitchen ideas before we start putting it back together?
