I have a tough time seeing any of those tiles together. Looks like too many warm, cool and mixed patterns. Keep it simple. Just my .02.

Ditch the niches and for sure if you must do them in the same tile as the walls this is ot IMO a decor itme shampoo bottles are not decor either . I use 12 x24 tile for both bathrooms flors and shower walls with the same tile only smaller on the shower floor . I do not do niches but alwys reccommend shower caddies . Guests usually bring hteir own shampoo and body wash so no need for a niche and honestly before you get in the shower pretty sure you know what you need so no reason for a niche full of stuff. there either BTW those tiles do not work together and for sure not how you are planning. I think simple tile choices allow for change in wall color , accessorisdown the road easily done .

Thank you so much for your advice. I am struggling to find a nice 12x24 tile that I’m happy with. I wanted to have something mostly white with some subtle gray veining. This is the best I can fine, but the veining is more of a greige or beige color which I am settling for. I am definately having the niches. It’s just a matter of how to tile them. I could just use the hex tiles on the shower floor and in the niche and ditch the subway tiles. Would that be better? This is what the tiles look like. Ignore the subway tile in the photo.

It's not popular right now to have a constrasting niche, however, I still like them. Each to his own. If you want a contrasting niche I would use the floor tile in the niche to keep everything fairly simple. Is the hex also going on the floor of these bathrooms, or are you only talking about the shower floor?

Love the hex tile for the floor.

Hate the marble-look, though at least this isn't heavily veined. Why is marble so popular when it's so old /cold /ugly? But you're on the right track when you say you want something large-scale. Easier to keep clean. You're also on the right track when you say you want porcelain. Again, easier to keep clean.

No to the subway tile. It's perfectly nice tile, but that dark spot in the niche will be kinda odd. It's not friends with the other two. I'd rather see the hexes repeated.

I think you all have me convinced. The subway tile is out. It will be either hex or the same wall tile in the niche.

Kandrewspa - the hex is only going on the shower floor. There is a wood look lvp on the bathroom floors that continues throughout the whole house.

GET OUT of cheap seconds place like Floor and Decor. Go to a real flooring store that carries Crossville, Daltile, American Olean, etc. Genuine American manufacturers.

Daltile's Marble Attache Lavish in the Diamond Carrerra is the perfect subtle, white based marble look. It isn't shouty, and comes in a whole lot of different sizes to coordinate a look.

I used Venatto II at my last house in a tiny windowless bathroom. We used the same tile everywhere including the niche. The shower floor was white matte penny tile. The grout was Mapei warm gray and paint was Benjamin Moore chantilly lace.

Did you use the polished or matte tile? it looks like it’s polished, but sometimes you can’t tell with photos. Did you get your grout from Floor & Decor? Yes we were pleased and would choose it again. We bought the polished tile and the Mapei warm gray grout, all at Floor & Decor. We chose a brushed satin (not shiny) silver toned schluter but I don’t remember the exact color name/type. I took a tile over to the schluter strips and a staff member helped us get the right profile size for the tile. This was 3 years ago.

Sorry to be so slow with my thoughts. I'd lean towards solid white -- solid is easy to match and doesn't suffer trendiness. Solid white would be just as easy to keep clean as the veined marble you propose, and it'll continue to match everything you throw at it, allowing your paint, linens and artwork to bring in the personality.

I'd definitely stick with something ceramic /porcelain for ease of cleaning. Marble is a super-trend, and you know what happens to super-trends when they go away? They become super-icks. Think about the Harvest Golds and Avocados from my childhood. Think about the country pink & blues with geese in bonnets. They were super-trends.

I do like things with a bit of variaton -- maybe something white /cream mottled.

I don't know that I'd call them the new accent stripe, but I 100% agree that they're utilitarian, not a fancy decor item -- especially because you're going to fill them up with shampoo bottles, which aren't 'specially pretty. We get fooled by Pinterest /similar because they show us these gorgeous, empty showers -- but, in real life, we fill those niches up with shampoo bottles, etc. Even if you say, "But I'm willing to decant into pretty bottles", you can't decant face wash tubes, shaving cream, etc.

- Is hidden from view until you're IN the shower.

- Is larger than that cutesy little 12x12 we see all the time.

- Has a solid base /not just tile, and that base is slightly tilted so water'll run off.

Eh, maybe. Even builder basic tile is going to last a long, long time -- we're talking decades, not years. All tile is very sturdy stuff.

Off-topic, but when you're talking tile, you should also be talking grout. Grout does play second-fiddle to tile, but your grout choice can completely change a tile. Just don't leave it to chance.

I’m still waffling a little on the accented niche. I am leaning towards not doing it. I think it will look much cleaner by continuing the wall tile in the niche - but my husband has been looking at all those cool looking photos online and wants to do it! In the end, I’m guessing it probably won’t matter much either way.

I did the accented niche -- matched the flooring and was very happy, but the reality is that 90% of that lovely niche backsplash is covered up by shampoo bottles. Effort. Wasted. I can see the argument for "it looks cleaner. Take away the "much".

Does your design allow for the option of a ledge instead of a niche? I think I'd prefer that to the niche I have.
