Is the bulb a single LED edison bulb?

Great question - honestly I did not consider that. The specs say.....

• Requires (1) 75 watt maximum Medium (E26) bulb

Here’s how you calculate the number of lumens you need to illuminate your space.

For a kitchen you want 70 - 80 lumens per square foot. So multiply square footage of your kitchen by 70 or 80.

To figure out how many lumens you get from an LED bulb you multiply watts by 80. If that is an a19 LED, it’s probably 6W (x 80 = 480 lumens).

You are trying to illuminate a space that is 9’ x (guessing) 2’ = 18 square feet. To illuminate just that island you will need 18 sf x 80 lumens/sf = 1,440 lumens total. 1440 lumens/480 lumens = 3. You will need 3 pendants.

This is guestimath. Ceiling height matters, and I haven’t taken that into account, but then you have other lighting in the space as well, and I haven’t taken that into account either. If you want to learn the more complete calculations involved in lighting schemes there are resources online, but this math hasn’t failed me yet.

Oh gosh, we posted at the same time. I used the a19 bulb because of the info on the Visual Comfort web site. If you chose a 75 watt bulb - that’s going to throw off some heat - that will give you around 1100 lumens. So the fixture matters, but the bulbs matter more. You might prefer 2 60W bulbs (800 lumens each for a total of 1600 lumens) to two 75W bulbs (2200 lumens and a whole lot of heat).

For size, this is a case of TWO only, and three is a crowd.

As far a slight produced? What other lighting is in the kitchen also matters. Heat from a 75 watt incandescent bulb is not a worry, you surely will not be sweating.

As to knock offs? I have never been disappointed with Visual Comfort. : ) The quality is great. Feiss looks exact, and the NUvo knock off, while not as refined, or exact finish? Gives you 100 w incandescent and 200 total over the island /same 20 " width.( far left )

REall get LEDF bulbs no heat . I think 2 of those since spacing out 3 will be too much No one needs incandecsent lighting anywhere anymore . There is a LED bulb for every type of base .

Those are ambient lighting. They can be on dimmers. A 17w led A19 regular screw-in base bulb will output 1100 lumens at the bulb in a flood pattern. Should be enough without shadowing for task lighting at any work zone areas along the 9 feet of counter on the kitchen side. 450 lumens at the counter is a minimum.

Random thoughts:

- TWO pendants will work well ... spaced at 3' and 6'. You can test this by blowing up a couple balloons to the size of your pendants and taping them to the ceiling ... easy, cheap way to determine if you like the size /spacing.

- Having said that, I would like to have more than two light bulbs above a 9' island, so I'd consider going with THREE smaller pendants.

- Those Edison bulbs were trendy for a while, but I think they're already disappearing -- they may become difficult to find. Do investigate this before you commit to them.
