I would prefer 15x 20, if you have the space there for it.

Use your current living room/ dining room as a guide. See how big the area is for a sofa and chairs, then add the area for the table with at least 3 ft walking space around it ( 4 ft plus for the traffic zone ) - that will take up 11 ft just by itself. Then consider any sort of cabinets or side tables.

You will easily fit that in the 15 ft width. The depth needs to be determined by the furniture layout and the door to outside ( sliders are easier ) .

I think 14-15 ft x 18-20 would be amazing!

Do you have photos from the outside of your house? A porch should be proportioned to your home. A small cottage might look best with a narrow porch, while a large farmhouse might do nicely with a large massive porch along the length of the house. How do you want to use your porch? A second family room with TV, an indoor garden, a place to relax with a book, a place for a family game night... Think about how use will use your space what you need and the layout.

It’s a ranch, and porch will be at the back corner. I don’t think a slider will work since there won’t be any walls or windows. And we can’t go wider than 15’. No setbacks, it’s a farm. I just need something to keep the bugs out, and rain, and a ceiling fan for warmer days.

Would like to help. By 15’ wide, could that also be the depth? My screened porch is 15’ from the back of the house to the back of the porch, but it’s 26’ from side to side or along the house. I can provide pictures if that’s at all in the range you mean. A 48” round table would easily fit in 1/2 the space.

Will you do a quick floorplan of your porch showing the furniture and doors? 🙂

Good morning ShadyWillowFarm. Here are the pictures of what works in my 15’ deep and 26’ wide porch. For reference, my dining table is 39” x 75”. The span of the 2 chairs + side table in the seating area is 77”. The general seating area is 11.5’ x 15’, and the dining is ~ 12’ x 15’. For interest, the large door leading into the inside dining room (from the porch seating area) is a folding door that opens the space completely. Best move we ever made. On nice days, it’s heavenly. I hope this helps! Our screened porch has changed our lives! You’re going to love it.

Yes, I am comfortable that I can get plenty of seating in there.

This is the back of my house. The porch will go on the right where the greenhouse is. We will be removing the dwarf pine too, it’s outgrown the space.

Hi Karedseb and thanks! Do you mean the floor? It is a pedestal system beneath the corners of each tile, gradually getting higher underneath to the outer edge of the porch to keep a slope under the tiles….i know that sounds complicated. Or it’s a bad explanation. The porch is over an outdoor kitchen, and that was the way to make the kitchen ceiling waterproof. Everyone always asks if we forgot to grout between the tiles, but the inevitable rain water that blows in, is intended to run underneath to the sloped floor and out. I hope that is what you were asking!
