Can we put anything over marble?

We are purchasing a new home and the master bath is not my taste at all. It's covered in marble from floor to halfway up the walls. I'm worried with it on the walls, oh and around the door frames and shower frame, it will be quite difficult to remove and/or change to something.

Here are the pics of the current bathroom with the huge amount of marble everywhere. We have to also add an additional or double vanity as they don't have but one!

The bath is a gut, because you do not want that tub and its steps. Because you want a new vanity. Because you don't want the marble. You don't want that shower.....you want a different bath.

You just bought a house, It need not be ripped today. You draw and you measure the space, you make a plan and a budget that gives you a new bath and you will need at least 75K to do it.

In the meantime, you can get clean in that bath : )

WOW the choices some people made! HUGE waste of space and I see danger. Covering over problems is rarely successful.

Are you 100% sure this is marble (natural stone) and not porcelain/ceramic tile (man made)?

I don't think that matters IMO no way to handle this without a gut job for all the reasons posted here. A new to you home has always things not to your liking but a wait to see how the home functions is always a good idea. Double sinks are never even considered in my life we have been married for more than 60 yrs and have never needed 2 sinks . All of what Jan said is how you look at this space . When ready come back with a to scale floor plan of the bathroom, the bedroom in fact a plan for that whole floor layout. You will probably find things that do not function for how you live so STOP right now and do nothing for at least 3-6 months . IMO no you cannot cover this BTW

Nope. That is why bathroom remodels are so expensive. They are gut jobs. You are essentially making a new space from just a shell. And there is a lot of demo to do in here.

Depending on how long you want to live with it until making a full gut, consider just a few cosmetic touch ups and decorating to make it a slightly more inviting space. My husband and I have never had double sinks, often get ready at the same time, and it always works. You'll figure out how to share until the time in which you gut.

If you want to buy yourself a few years with this marble, I'd find another paint color for the walls, get big bath towels to hang and break up more of the marble. Get different hardware.

On the bright side it looks in good condition and plenty of space, very livable.

Live with it until you can afford to spend the 70K+ that it takes to replace and redo all of that.

Yes I want to gut it and remodel all of it. I definitely need two vanities and a master bedroom doesn't sell well with one vanity, so it should have been added when the home was built!

Chiming in to agree with all of the above. But I think $70K is a low estimate for this job, given the size of the bathroom. Much will depend on the cost of labor where you live. If you were in the Bay Area like I am, this bath would be more like $150K, mimimum.

Congratulations on getting a new house. Just move in and start saving photos of large bathrooms that appeal to you.

This will be a big job and you will need to do it once, and do it right. We can all guess at what it will cost, but where you live makes the difference in your labor costs. As you get to know your neighbors, you can find out if any of them have had a successful bathroom renovation and who was their contractor. And maybe what the la or cost was.

Buy some pretty towels and a couple of rugs to keep your feet warm. And be very careful with those steps!

No, it’s not at all my taste and, yes, the tub is crazy dangerous. On the positive side, it looks like there is plenty of storage, including the built-in wall unit. If you shower and don’t bathe, you can skip the tub altogether. Otherwise complete re-do is in order to get it to your liking. And the upholstered chair adds a little quirky touch.
