redesign my living room for me

last year

Help me redesign my living room. Happy to start from scratch with furniture. Ideally I'd like a table in there but it's not a necessity

Here is the room with no furniture before we painted

What’s not working for you currently? A bit more info would be helpful

Nothing really in particular just looking to refresh the space

Need a scale floor plan with windows, exits, door swings etc. It appears there is a door leading to outside yet little space designated for an entry into the home. I would start there with wall hooks and bench with shoe mat under the bench. Does not have to be built in but scaled to a comfortable level. Decide if a TV will be and how to arrange furniture for viewing if you wish. A table with drop down leaves allows you to open up as needed. depending on table size the overhead light fixture may need to be adjusted so it is only over the table in the table’s smallest configuration so no one bumps their head. Keep the little one- she’s adorable!

You already have a lovely room maybe touch-up on some accessories:

    - move the 2 small frames above the sofa to the wall behind the armchair with ottoman.

    - place either 1 large frame or 2 above the sofa

    - a larger scale lamp on the end table next to the sofa

    - more noticeable accent pillow on the sofa (with feather inserts so they don't lay flat)

    - place a task lamp next to the armchair with ottoman

    - if you have space a side table next the the other armchair

    - something larger on the coffee table

Measure the room for us please and draw it on paper, since we cant see the room all in one photo this would be helpful. Others will ask the same thing.

Everything is too neutral. I"d start with a colorful, traditional rug with some blue/indigo in the rug. Then I'd get a blue fabric sofa and neutral chails. (Or vice/versa) Some thought starters:

When you say table what table are you referring to? Yes we need the plan and I agree some color for sure . I never like staggered art on walls and what style do you like now or just the same as you have ?

Your current design seems a relaxed entertaining setup for an older couple. I see a young child. Can you give more family info. Do you have another space to hang out together for tv, etc?

Yes we have a family room layout that we all hangout in. This is the "formal living room" if you will. We are a family of 5

Just realized you're willing to start from scratch with new furniture but ro recommend anything different from the layout you presently have we need a floor plan of the room with all dimensions and showing all windows, etc.

Also when you say: "I'd like a table in there but it's not a necessity", do you mean you don't necessarily need a dining table and chairs? That would make a big difference in the layout.

Do you like any specific style or colour scheme? Are you a grandparent or young couple with small child?

You said Formal living room, do you use it at all? could it be a better more functional space?

My first thought was making more of a banquette out of the present table since you wanted it to stay--but it seems like it's not used daily. But now we know this is your formal space not a hang out space... Perhaps a table that collapses so it can be used for puzzles or games when needed but not take up so much room in between? I agree the rooms biggest issue is color--and personalization. Different patterned area rug and curtain panals would infuse a lot of life into your space. A radiator cover so you have a bit of counter space w/o crowding the space with more tables would be a good idea. I might rethink the brown sofa. It's lines and the leather just seem to be fighting everything else. Do you ever use the fireplace? Perhaps a gas insert would be clean/fast and cozy.

It's the holiday season so maybe after the New year we will get some answers or maybe just another disappearing poster . I have no idea how to help with zero feed back.
