Sorry, no help with rugs but just wanted to chime in and say wow what a view! Terrific room to enjoy it from, too (I like the flagstone here, FWIW).

I kind of like the flagstone so I would probably want something a bit warmer for my feet so maybe just a nice fake sisal rug in a neutral color for the warmth idea . That floor is really not ugly and works well with the space and your stuff

  • last year

Yes exactly .. the floor is cold! I am leaning towards solid .. would you suggest neutral gray or oatmeal .. I feel ivory would turn yellow. FYI - paint is revere pewter. Thank you so much!!

A rug with some greenish neutrals would work with the floor and your wall color. I’d avoid yellow completely and gray is pretty drab

  • last year

I wouldn't worry about the stone pattern.

something in a rich red color to brighten up the space. big enough to fill the space.

Obviously you could simply select a shag area rug for this room.

If you're careful, patterns that are minimal can be used.

The red rugs that Lyn shows above would be pretty in your space. I imagine this home gets a lot of summer use—so I like something a bit lighter . You may need a pattern with a bit more gray to really work with the floor ( this was a quick grab from an image search)

I like that colour but wanted something softer than sisal. Love the poufs!!

The floors can be treated as a neutral and not as important.

    Ooooohhhhh the view is outstanding.

The flagstone is perfect for the location. I would get a rich wool rug in a color you like.

I love that floor and I would never cover it. It looks great with that sofa. No need to do anything more.

  • last year

As others have stated, the floor is neutral. You can’t get more grounded than rock, so put whatever you want on it. If you have other rugs try them in that room to see what works

Lots of possibilities; depends on the look you're after.

    Creamy shag:

    Quiet grayed green, like walls:

    Soft traditional:

    Traditional with more color:

    Natural fiber:

    Stripes and cowhide:

    Contemporary geometric:

    Bolder geometric:

In each, maybe add a comfortable chair this side of the smaller/taller table? Happy hunting!

The traditional one with colour looks the nicest of the samples posted.

@Jill Magermans I have an area rug over wall-to-wall carpet over a concrete floor (no basement). I use the room for teleworking from the sofa. All the warmth gets sucked out of my legs leaving them aching. The air in the room is chilled too. So I really sympathize.

There are so many beautiful rugs to choose from that I know you will find something. I would be looking for a wool winter rug in warm cinnamon and persimmon for the psychology, even though those aren't my favorite colors.

BUT! First I would buy an under rug heater, because that's the real issue here, isn't it.

I'd go rugless in summer and enjoy the natural cooling.

    Dark blue

I so appreciate everyone’s feedback! I thought I was sold on a solid light rug but am rethinking. Simply natural - I love both of the traditional rugs - can you tell me where I can find them?

the room is very warm..with the leather and wood..browns in the stone floor so bringing in a bit of a cool tone like blue would be a perfect addition to the space and a beautiful combination with your water view!

Earthtones are in right now. Blues, greens.

The gray green that simply posted looks great! What’s the adjoining room colors?

    Hi Jill!

Ohmigosh, beautiful pic! perfect lol! blend of luxurious but relaxed materials — rich and warm wood and leather against a cool (tones) (but cool beans to the floor too! showing my age!) stone floor — let’s find an elegant but durable coastal textile for lakeside clubhpuse vibe!

    oh lol! WELL DONE ❤️

Julie’s dark blue traditional wins for me!

All of the rugs I showed are from rugsdirect.com. They have a good visualizer; just upload your room photo. To find the more monochromatic traditional, search for Heritage (it's HER-1). The one with some rust in it is Aspendos.

But the blue (the one with the pillow images) is better, I think. I was looking for something that would relate to the water but never found anything I liked. Most of the floor is cropped out of the blue rug photo, though; make sure you still like it with more of the stone showing--unless you're planning to get a size that covers most of the floor.

I would not do a rug any smaller than a 8x10..the last deep blue traditional rug I posted with the pillows is a 9x12…what is the room size?

    This is really beautiful too!

    Or this?

Really like the blue with warm colours alot ..agree it ties in with the water.. I have a black tv console - do you think it would fight the blue?
Room is 23’ x 15’. I’m attaching photos of the other end of the room. The room attached to this one has a pool table in it and has same walls and flooring.

If you only want a rug in the tv viewing sitting area a 8x10 or 9x12…otherwise your room is large enough to hold as big as 10x14…..yes you can add the dark blue with your black tv cabinet…just be sure to change up the pillows..I have a couple more rugs to post..I think the blue with your leather sofa is beautiful.

These are all deep indigo blue…I do prefer a more casual rug for this space..media /pool table entertainment area. The pillows can be mixed and matched.

Here is one of the casual traditional in your room with new photo including media cabinet…

  • last year

And here's the warm traditional rug in the new photos. I would darken the white closet doors somehow (wood? paint to match wall? paint one of the darker colors from the stone? mirror to reflect the lake view?), and add a chair or two at the closet end of the seating area (not shown).

This rug is Andorra 7139A on rugsdirect.com, by the way, and is a 10x13 (if the visualizer scaled it correctly!).

    Those views! 😍

Lots of really nice suggestions by everyone.

With the visual depth of the very good-looking stone floor, I think a layered look — jute with a wool rug for softness and warmth — would look and feel amazing, and really anchor the seating/TV area. The jute brings in the waterfront aesthetic and keeps everything from looking too heavy, as well as a break from the stone and rug patterns.

Just an example of that idea, not suggesting these specific rugs:

With your black media cabinet I would try to stick with very dark blue saturated rugs..I did go with a traditional black rug in my family room and just love it…you can also consider black…here is my family room with black rug..leather chair and black media cabinet…and our Den in Black and ink blue..we love the combo.
