How would you decorate this area?

last year

I have a beige sectional so far but dont know how fo arrange it to make it look nice and not awkward. I like forest green/ earth colors. The style id love to go with is modern organic/cozy. This is our first home and need help 🙏🏻

You need to show the entrance. Do you have a foyer? Does front door open right into the living room? Please provide measurements. See below for how to post.

Layout precedes decor and color choices. You have a very small space. Keep the beige/ivory wall color so all the spaces flow together and make it seem bigger. As others have said, a sectional is going to swallow the room. You don't mention which direction the short side of the sectional is, so that will dictate which wall on which to place the long side. You don't mention if this is where you'll watch TV. You don't mention of front door opens into living room. If possible, fit the long side under the window and short side on the right, that would allow more space to enter the room. But we don't know how big your sectional is. Otherwise, you have to put long side on long wall, which means you run right into it coming into the room.

Notice in this living room that curtains blend into wall color. Very little is on the floor. Good use is made of the walls to draw the eye upward.

Decor: Keep wall color the same as it goes with the floor and connects to other spaces, which makes them an extension of the living room, therefore seeing larger. Get white ceiling to floor light curtains, either white or same as wall color and wood colored rattan shades. Get your green in sofa pillows, art, rug. Accents should be wood or rattan--natural organic looking.

Keep in mind that you're inviting some design pros and people with a design eye into your home via photos. If they walked into your actual space, they would take in all of it: all four sides, doorways, floors, windows, ceiling, built-in fixtures, lighting, trim--the "givens"--then the features that can be changed--furnishings, paint, art, rugs, decor items, etc. It's all one first impression. Same thing with photos. That's why it's important to provide well lit photos of the entire space, taken from all sides of a room regardless of the size of your problem.

Hi! I would like to help but you need to add photos that shows better the sourroundings, measurements and your sectional. At a first glance you should place the sectional above the kitchen "window" facing the left wall and place there TV etc. But still need more info to help you.

Judging from the size of the window in your first picture, this looks like a fairly small space. How big is the sectional? Are you sure it will fit into a logical layout? Obviously your largest piece of furniture will drive your project.

Here is a plan for your room. Given the limited info you have provided, here is a plan showing a sectional, one lounge chair and a location for the TV. That's provided your beige sectional will actually fit in this small area.

Beige on that gray floor??? No one thinks that's a first miss step? What do YOU mean by sectional? Three sided/two? One huge piece can really limit what your options are. Chances are there is only one way it will logically fit in that space.

OP has gone AWOL. Hopefully, she or he is off measuring the space, taking additional photos, measuring the sectional and noting which way the short end of the "L" has to face. I've now noted that the long side of the sectional, if it even fits, can't go on the right since the kitchen opening has a counter that sticks out. People will hit their heads on it! Because the photo doesn't really show that side, it's hard to know whether walling it off might work. Then again, if the OP had the money for that, then use it for a nice comfy sofa that fits and two small scale upholstered armchairs.

I always hate to be part of the bad guy crowd pointing out that the numbers for the oversized sectional, the oversized black leather couch, the oversized TV screen won't fit and/or will be the opposite of the cozy, comfortable feeling people say they're going for. Sometimes you just have to get rid of the problem piece and accept that the space needs a totally different approach.

Houzz has a slew of stories about how to deal with small living rooms. I'm sure very few of them include a sectional.
