We have had up to nine dogs at one time, now down to four, and our favorite sofas are Stressless (formerly Ekornes). They are the most comfortable sofas we have found. We have a couple that my husband has had for over thirty years, we finally need to have reupholstered.

We have a lazyboy sectional thats very comfortable and the seat cushions are like new after 8 years. And BTW it has no built in recliners or overstuffed arms or back! If there is a brick and mortar store close you can try some out. We also found our son a beautiful leather sofa in their clearance section for a great price.

@dan1888 - How long have you had your latex foam sofa? I had a vintage sofa reupholstered with natural latex and after 8 years or so it is off gassing a horrible smell. It was good quality certified this and that from a great mom and pop eco upholstery supply company. I'm bummed.

Elizabeth - If you are looking for fast furniture, I really like Rowe sofas. They used to be extremely good furniture that lasts a long time. They no longer are made as well. But it seems that durability and longevity isn't a consideration for you.

However -- if you got a vintage sofa from pre 1990's and got it upholstered, you'd have it forever and would only need to reupholster it whenever it got shredded by kids or dog.

Our Ethan Allen sofas have held up well over 10 years. The upholstery shows no wear, the cushions are still firm. Our Pottery Barn stools lost all their cushioning within 5 years. Pottery Barn and West Elm are owned by the same company.

We had Lazyboy sofas that lasted 14 years and are still actually fine. We only replaced them because we wanted a different look and feel in our room. They withstood multiple dogs and cats. I would recommend without hesitation.

I don’t know if this is an option where you live but I recommend Walter E. Smithe. We just bought new furniture from our local Walter E. Smithe store and I cannot say enough about the great experience we had working with them. Design help is included in your purchase - our designer came to our house, got a feel for what we wanted, took pictures and measurements, and worked with us to find the right style, size/scale, function, and fabric for our new sectional, ottoman, and chairs. They do offer a range of styles and prices. We went with a Smithecraft sectional (also comes in sofa version), the Louise. Some of their sofa lines offer the option to customize arm and leg style and fabric, and importantly, cushion firmness. We went with the middle (“just right”), and I’m glad we didn’t go firm! We bought completely different style of sectional than I thought we would and I love it. Our designer definitely steered us in the right direction.
