Help With House Number & Doorbell Location

Hi all, I'm having a hard time deciding where to play the house numbers and camera doorbell. After doing some research, I've come to understand that it is recommended that the doorbell is installed on the same side as the door knob, which in my case is to the left of the door. However, I will have a large sconce light on each side of the door which I mocked up in the attached pics, so If I place the doorbell there and the house numbers it seems like it will be a bit cramped.

I know this is not conventional, but I was considering the space to the left of the window for the house numbers, perhaps a bit larger than usual . This area is my least favorite since the house is a bit off balanced due to the single window which used to be a double. We downsized in order to fit a much needed closet inside of the porch behind that wall.

I was also considering the doorbell to the right of the door keeping the hous number to the left of the door.

As you can see, I am quite indicisve on what to do here. Any help is greatly appreciated!

Just wanted to provide somes more information to make things a little easier to understand. The main entrance to the home is the second floor door. The door on the ground level is something the house had originally underaneath the original stairs but was removed at some point and we wanted to bring it back as it is useful for accessing our ground level. It is not located where it was orignal, since the original stairs came straight down, but we did the best we could.

Below is a picture of the house before the renovation started, the stairs will be built back up in a similar fashion. Our house number was on the door before. It was small, but we never had an issue with deliveries.

IMO large house #s to the left of the window make sense . The camers is placed wher eit best shows you who is at the door if that is what you are using it for..The light placement is hampering the placement of the doorbell for sure . IMO large house #s are a must I hate trying to find an address where I have yot walk up to the door to see the #. I am curious how guests get to the door . Maybe the bottom door is where you want the doorbell.

House numbers and doorbells go on the bottom floor PERIOD. So for you to be considering this there is much info we do not have. The brick is not yours? How will one access the door we see where the new window is?

Base the decision on the final appearance of the house not an image with scaffolding, ladders, and exposed sheathing.

EDIT: Or a picture of how the house use to look.

We've had time to stare at your photos to try to figure out how to access the doorbell point and can't figure it out, imagine how it will be for guests and deliveries. As you said, this is unconventional, so make it easy for them.

Place the house number in two places, one that can be seen by pedestrians and the other by drivers both during the day and at night. You may want to include arrows in the signage.

The street level number placement should be near the access point (black door? eventual exterior stairs?) to guide guests. It can go on the door, on the brick, on a large rock, maybe even on the white post where the car gate opens, illuminated by landscape lights. If access is through the black door, include interior signs and arrows.

The second level number placement should also be illuminated. You may want to consider either adding a 3rd light or moving the left side sconce over past the window.

I like the idea of larger numbers. If you can't easily place them under a light, I'd recommend looking into backlit numbers. I used these on my old house (Luxello) with the spacers so that they float off the wall. There are several brands, styles, and finishes available. I loved that people could easily see the numbers and find my house at night.

While walls are unfinished and it's easy to add wiring, now is the time to consider it.

Here's what they looked like installed. (This was before the brick was repainted and the door was stained.) I didn't have a good spot for the numbers under the light, so above the porch and backlit was my solution.

@bpath its NJ, but its funny you mentioned Chicago because i took a lot of inpiration from homes in Chicago. Mainly the steel framed stairs with concrete treads and the sconces I saw at a home over there and was able to find the same ones. the brick is reclaimed Chicago ”pink brick”.

Door placement has also been considered but it might be hard to see once the railing gets installed.

You could consider placing a decorative number on the railing. It could be a plaque or something custom made into the design. Maybe not quite as fancy as MJ's old house... but it would be visible in that spot and you could still call that Chicago inspiration :)

I think on one side of the door below the sconce so that it lights up the number.
