The tiles are for backsplash only, I hope - not for countertops also?! Your post title isn’t clear on that. If you are also adding countertops? Then the best choice may depend on whether you are doing honed or polished countertops and is really a visual choice. If adding new countertops, don’t get backsplash until new countertops are installed and you can get a good visual! From a “keeping them clean” pro/con, no real difference - but what material are these tiles - need sealing coat or not? Need more info or photo.

Glossy / Shiny Finish

• Pros: Reflects light and makes a space feel brighter and larger. Easy to wipe clean, so great for kitchens and bathrooms.

• Cons: Can show water spots, fingerprints, and smudges more easily. The surface can also be a bit slippery when wet, especially on floors.

Matte Finish

• Pros: Gives a softer, more natural look. Hides smudges, water spots, and dirt better than glossy tiles. Provides better slip resistance, making it safer for bathroom floors.

• Cons: Doesn’t reflect light, so it won’t brighten a space as much. Can sometimes be harder to deep-clean if it has texture, since dirt can cling more to the surface.

Rule of thumb: Glossy tiles work best for walls (backsplashes, shower walls, accent areas), while matte tiles are often preferred for floors or high-traffic areas.
