Decorative hood/range cover

My hood is fine and functional just so small and ugly. Want to remove upper cabinets and make it look like a nice hood but really just looking for a cover, otherwise needs venting/big job.

Wrong size hood for the stove, it should be larger so it actually captures the affluent.

You need a vented hod before the pretty part and honestly with a gas range and absolute must. The space is very dated so IMO what you have works better than trying to redo to something that does not work in the space . A good vented hood maybe stainless is what you need not some big clunky fancy wood hood in what appears to be a tiny kitchen

I am going to replace granite and backsplash. Not a tiny kitchen or home, just a tiny oven. Do need a grander hood cover. It’s worked perfectly fine w/out venting for years of big meals. Can replace and vent if easier then hood cover but functionally not needed so was trying to avoid

A vented hood is a wonderful thing but we cook fish once a week and that’s not an odor you want hanging around! Since you want to avoid venting your hood perhaps a stainless recirculating would look better than what you have without installing a faux vented one.

Here’s ours that is vented but still has cabinet on top that the duct runs through.

IMO agas range always neds venting this is not about smell it is about gas fumes really.

8 years of fishy Christmas Eve dinners- it’s fine and functional.

Will replace if that’s easier:less expensive then a faux cover that “looks” vented cover to get

This blogger ”slipcovered” her existing hood. perhaps this will give you some ideas.

A vented hood is a good thing. No way to argue that. Too many homes built later 1900s abandoned them when architects decided to put kitchens on inside walls, I assume. I am interested in discussing size. I tend to turn on my unvented hood when chopping onions. I put the cutting board as close to the stove top as I can but not on the burners. My fan works marvelously for sucking the air ,and off gassing onions up, out of my face. No teary eyes! So my conclusion is it isn't about size it's about the force of the fan taking fumes away from the cook and home in the case of gas ranges and more serious fumes. Thank you for the larger picture of your kitchen, it's lovely. But it is begging for a SS full on hood with a chimney to the ceiling, just aesthetically speaking. I burn a candle on my stove after dinner. It burns off all the cooking smells fairly quickly. When we return from our after dinner walk I can't tell what we had for dinner. But if you are going to bother with a change and it's at all possible go for the best you can, and that would be hood with venting to the outside. I would if I could!
