Perhaps seeing the rooms without furniture in neutral colours would help you visualize the rooms with your furniture. For the kitchen, I simply decluttered it, replaced the countertops for white, and show a different light fixture for the island.

I actually think the wood cabinets looks nice. They would benefit from a new countertop and backsplash, maybe new hardware. I’d try to do without that large cabinet across from fridge. Extend the island counter and have some stools on that side.

Definitely change out the kitchen flooring.
Prime over all the paint colors and then you’ll be able to envision other colors better.

Live with it as is for 6 - 12 months so you can determine exactly what you cannot live with. Then develop a plan accordingly. Otherwise you may be throwing out the window if the layout does not work after painting and floors.

This just needs minor tweaking to be spectacular. Lisedv nailed it. New paint color and the changes made in the kitchen and it is really nice.

There is nothing fatal that $600 worth of paint and sweat to paint it and remove the christmas garland cannot fix. The cabinets are outstanding. The mustard walls are actually one of the hot colors coming, matched with navy and hunter green. A couple of rugs, and some jewel toned pieces, and you've got something that is very much up to date without doing much of anything.

Depends what color palette would you like the room to have:

Neutral & bright (whites, beige, gray, wood tones)

Warm modern (taupe, rust, olive, gold)

Cool modern (charcoal, blue-gray, black accents)
