Updating exterior

I am looking for suggestions on updating the exterior of this home. I want to keep the brick. The wheelchair ramp is coming off, and I am not a fan of the bushes. It will be getting updated windows as well. The roof is fairly new, so I plan to keep that as is. I am open to a wide range of colors.

    Your home looks wellcared for.

As you said, the bushes and the ramp definitely need to go. I wonder what kind of windows you have in mind; I’d plan to toss those cheap shutters. (Typically only single windows look good with shutters.)

A new handsome front door would be nice.

The scrolled ironwork post should be replaced with a chunky post.

Some inspo with sage green siding

Does the brick continue all the way around the house?

I'd ditch the shutters. The hedges are not a good look. You have more horizontal lines. You could prune the hedges to a wavy pattern. I'd do a warm cream with that brick.

You probably want a landscape plan, because once you take out the wheelchair ramp, you may need new front steps and a path, depending on whether they built it over existing ones that are in good shape or not.

Since you're getting new windows, I'd lower the brick trim and add larger windows without shutters. Casement or fixed picture windows.

Mark Bishak, no. The brick only runs along the front.

It would be less expensive to paint the brick the same color as the siding than to remove it.

I would leave the brick as is. You have a beautiful home, the brick seems to be in good shape. No maintenance if never painted, Besides that, I love the brick on your home.

Ordinarily I abhor painting brick, but I have seen several similar houses where the brick has been painted the same color as the siding, and feel it does modernize the house. Same color, but different texture, it looks pretty good. And this brick is just on one side so it will look more cohesive.

It's a matter of personal choice. I'd remove it in a flash because the designed height doesn't appeal and it was only used on one side. Once it's off the window height is not optimum, imo. A house built now would use larger units beginning likely 6-12 inches or more lower.

Painted brick can become a family bonding event when every few years it requires scraping and re-painting and the whole family can gather to perform the chore.

I agree that it would be less expensive to paint the brick. I do understand Mark's comment about removing it - it's only on the front of the house = a very obvious faux brick base for the house = it would look better without it.

Also, the brick extends higher on the exterior of the house than is typical. It makes the windows look

The windows need to be larger/longer. Where is the floor in relation to the bottom of the current windows?

If the windows can be lengthened, is it more expensive to cut into the brick in order to add a longer window OR would removing the brick first make that process easier/less expensive?

Celery's mock ups look nice - but notice how the brick line is much lower on them than the brick line on the actual house - it's much higher. The brick takes up too much of the front of the home.

Another creative option is to remove and salvage all the bricks on the right segment. Then use them to fully brick the left side and garage face. Looks to be enough for that. Enlarging windows also.
