Surely everyone is not coming through the front door. Is there an attached garage or back door that would be more suitable for a mud room. Mud Rooms are not in foyers.

Thank you! I don’t have an attached garage :(, and the back door is kind of an issue as well, I would love to close it to be able to create a bigger useful bathroom, What the house has in the first floor is too small. I don’t have a floor plan. Thanks for any help.

No one is going to be able to provide you with any meaningful advice if you don't make a scaled sketch of your floor plan (including all dimensions for windows/doors/doorways/fireplaces/etc.

It doesn't take very long if you purchase a laser tape measure (they have inexpensive ones on Amazon). You can then use graph paper to make your sketch (1 box = 1') or use a ruler (1/4" = 1').

If you post the drawn to scale layout, you will receive assistance from pros + expert non pros. However, you have to be willing to put in the effort to make the sketch of your layout. You can't expect real assistance without it.

Posting photos of rooms does not help us understand the layout of your home.

Here is a current post where the person who started it is receiving a lot of helpful comments re: the layout of her new home that she is building:

It's not a hand drawn sketch because she had a layout of her new home - but it will show you how people are more than willing to help if you provide enough information.

I have an older home, that although lacking a modern mudroom, does have a small vesibule leading into my foyer that is tiled and holds the coat closet. This and a few hooks and a small bench in the foyer has been instrumental in curtailing boots, backpacks, and coats for us. Maybe look into adding a front vestibule. Architecturally, vestibules suit the age and style of your house.

What would you keep in the "mud room"? Coats, boots, shoes, sports equipment? If you define the purpose, it might help envision the design. You may have to steal some space from an adjacent room. That’s why we’d like a floor plan.

And what’s under the staircase? That area may be converted to a closet and pull out drawers.

Are these your furnishings or the sellers?

If the door under your stairs is to the basement, what's your ability to put hooks on the walls inside that space? It also looks like you have some kind of built-in to the left of the door. What is it? Can it be used? It looks to me like you need to think about your needs and what's available.

Just to clarify, looking at the new pictures you posted this would be your front door

and the 1st picture you posted would be your back door where you'd like suggestions for a mudroom

What is the width of that hallway next to the stairs?

Please be more specific about what you want and need in your mud area:

-Place to sit to take shoes on and off?

    -Shoe storage?

    - Coat and bag storage?

    - What else?

    - How many in your household and how many kids?

    - "This space" you mean the living room? What else will you use the living room for? A traditional living room? TV watching?

    - Will you mostly becoming and going through the backdoor or the front door?

    - What other renovations are you doing to the first floor if any?

These answers will help us help you figure this out.

I would love to have coat and shoes storage in the mid area. We are 4 people living in the house, with one of them being a kid. I think the a space for that should be in the living room, that seems so big boring and useless most of the time, but I have not idea how to go about it, may be a bathroom as well some where.. right at the back entrance is a small bathroom that only has a toilet.. Could you add on a mudroom space at the back side that leads through that back door?

Can you steal space from a room adjacent to the hallways?

Thanks for info on sellers' furniture. It looks like you can add a cubby area in the front hallway since there's a table shown there in the sellers' photo. After you move in, live with the space for a year before making permanent changes in the entry. Try installing one coat hook per person over an inexpensive bench you can sit on and put shoes under with boot tray if needed. Then you'll know what to specify when building a nice-looking custom cubby for your front entryway after you've lived in the house four seasons.

You really need to live in the house to see how you use the entryway. A long slim hall bench or console with baskets below may be all you need. The house has a beautiful hallway which you don't want to spoil with a jumble of coats and shoes.
