Help me choose a sideboard please!

Hi I need to pick put a sideboard for my dining room. I have a light oak table and chairs. Im not sure if i should get a side board in a similar (but not exact) color to the table, go with a dark for contrast, or something in the middle.

I added a picture of the room, and did an ai program to add light and dark sideboards to try to get an idea. they are not the actual ones i would get. The sideboard will be max 62 inches wide. I am leaning towards dark but i want it to look intentional and not too random. I am considering one of the plank and beam ones but also like the curved door patterns. Thanks!

The darker cabinet will provide a new contrast to your dining table.

Am preferring the lighter wood tone sideboard.

you don't need contrast, the dark will just look like a black hole in an otherwise soft toned room. @Maureen shows a great option in her post. especially love the texture of it.

The dark wood is too drastic. The lighter wood is what I would choose.
Add a dark wood bowl on the lighter console to add dimension.

Where is the table from? I would prefer to match the table finish

It is from RH. the matching sideboard is out of my budget.

i love the one maureen posted but i think i found it and it is also out of my budget. i would like to stay under $1000

I could get on board with a lighter unit that had dark on it too or at least a change in texture. I also don’t generally like too matchy

I prefer the dark, but I like a mix of finishes, I don’t like things too “matchy matchy”, that’s just me, I realize many prefer otherwise.. I have about 5? different finishes in my living room, walnut, charcoal stained credenza, light ”shell” stain, plus glass, ceramic tops, more interesting for me, but “you do you”, that's what important. .

The sideboard in your photo with the wood tone close to your tabletop is sort of bland with the wall color. The darker sideboard is better but still not quite ”it”.

Have you experimented with a sideboard in black, cream or a color? Do you plan to use art work over the sideboard that you can pick up a color from?

Or perhaps paint the nook a darker color and using the sideboard that matches your table top color?

I also like a darker color for the piece. As others have said the light one is kind of blah. It doesn’t have to be super dark,

maybe a walnut color? Also I would add art above it. Something colorful.

    djacob… like the walnut suggestion.

The first style of the Plank and Beam piece is more interesting, in the darker color. If your dining room rug had more colors, you could add something other than a wood piece.

Here are some ideas. Having the piece on higher legs makes it look better, too.

So this is the table from RH that I found that matches your style table. It's in Weathered Teak. That makes a huge difference in my mind as to what should be used as a sideboard.

Thank you! its actually the padua table in greige oak. it looks very similar tho! Not sure if that makes a difference :). i like that sideboard with the lines in it.

Sorry. That does make a difference. Do you live close to one of the RH Outlets?
