My son moved to the East Bay last year and has been exploring the area via BART. His favorite place is Rockridge. No one can afford to live there, or anywhere in the Bay area. Or anywhere in California that is liveable, for that matter. Hope I never have to move back there.

Ooooh! Love the size of the rooms. The leaded glass window and arched windows are fabulous! That would be a very comfortable home to live in.

California has some stunning Craftsman homes. This one is a great example of the lovely architecture there.

The state is beautiful from top to bottom. Crazy expensive - but beautiful.

I love it just for the breakfast room. If I were designing my perfect house, I would start with a sunny breakfast room.

Beginning in 1975, I have lived from San Diego to the Central Coast to Northern California. I lived in Davis, outside Sacramento, for thirteen years. It's one of the best cities in the Sacramento area. But you need money to live in California. There's the beautiful coastal areas ($$$$) and the mountains, though today I wouldn't feel safe living there with the fire hazard. That leaves the scorching hot Central Valley, which is affordable for a reason. I used to get so depressed on the drive back from the SF airport to Davis after visiting my east coast family. All the brown hills. I need green.

I love it too! I'm not usually a fan of dark wood molding but I love it there. I could move in and be very happy.

Maybe 50 years ago, I read an article that reasoned that the Oakland/Berkeley Hills area has the best climate in the country. Rarely the fog of SF, not the heat of the Contra Costa communities on the other side of the hill, not too cold in winter, with plenty of mild days, rain only in the winter, few bugs (open the windows!). I miss it!

Sushipup, I grew up on Grizzly Peak in the Berkeley Hills, and that famous SF fog would stream through the Golden Gate, and smack up (as my mom would say) against the Berkeley Hills. Since 1987 I’ve lived just five miles south of where I grew up, and the climate here is quite different- we get far less fog than Berkeley- it’s generally warmer and sunnier. It’s ideal, if I do say so. We like to say that Oakland has some of the best weather on the planet!

I couldn’t agree more about the weather in Oakland…perfect year round. When I got married in 80’s, we moved 25 miles east and what a vast difference in weather!! I am always in awe seeing the beautiful bay views whether on 580 or coming through the caldecott.
