I think i would put the tv where you have the fireplace. Where the TV is now is in the walkway from the front door. Bring it into themlivingroom proper. Put the cozy loveseat facing the TV. The see about a table or console where the TV is now, to define the entryway.

Move the TV and float the cozy sofa in the center of the room.

My first thought is to paint the whole room, ceiling and trim(s) a light beige/creamy white to compliment the floor. SW Alabaster comes to mind. It will be a nice compliment to the chenille lounge chair. Hang your curtain rods at the ceiling height. a softer color similar to the wall color and for a fuller coverage add another set to each window... rod extended beyond the window trim.

if the curtains are neat they set the tone for the space... they don't have to be expensive, find some off the rack at WalMart or Target and hang them properly.

I agree with the TV being where the fireplace is now. So you can see it from the kitchen too. Mount it on the wall . Yes, get a large area rug. Limit the excess of furniture to only what you need and will use. little end tables are just filler. Get a storage bench for storage and extra seating if needed. Floor lamps that can be moved around rather than table lamps too small.

Hang your bicycle on the wall where the TV is now.

If you include a color plan and style ideas along with a budget, recommendations can be made

I'm curious about the rest of the room. For instance it might make sense to put the table by the windows and move the new lounger loveseat and tv to the "dining space".

I'm very sorry.........are the pictures from a move in? What does "Not home very much" mean?

The only measurements I see, are those for a furry loveseat.

What are all the boxes? What is with all the kitchen mess? The bike in the living room?

What I really want to understand? How are you "living here" at all, because this is not......"living"

Is it a rental....is it a "storage and run away as fast and far as possible?!?

Really, I AM trying to understand.

Measure the room.....walls, windows, openings, kitchen use graph paper and note a dimension for everything, All the posts above are very well intended, and will help you not at all until you address..........that which seems more an over sized storage unit, than living space.

Thanks for the extra pictures. Do you use both doors to enter your unit?

How many people will be using the room? The loveseat is for two to watch TV and not much else. I recommend a couple of upholstered swivel chairs, they can face any direction.

Not a love seat more cuddle chair and totally useless in any space where you might have guests.I have no idea how we help with no info a space ful of packing boxes ans still no room measurements . That fake FP is just bad. Move the "loveseat" to the bedroom where it belongs then post the measurements and take pics without boxes and answer questions .

@Expobaby we only use the 1 door by the tv!

Once you get the couch delivered you could try a few different layouts. I think I would try to create a foyer area where the tv is now. You could add a coat rack, a place to drop your keys and leave your bike. Have you considered putting the tv in front of one of the windows? You could have the back of your sofa to the "foyer". I would then pull your table closer to the other door and pretend it's just a window.

Living room issues often stem from layouts that don’t respond to the room’s true function or proportions. Before focusing on furniture or décor, it’s important to evaluate circulation, how people enter, move through, and exit the space. If pathways cut through seating areas or block natural flow, the room will always feel uncomfortable no matter how stylish it looks.

Scale is another major factor. Oversized furniture can overwhelm a room, while pieces that are too small make it feel unfinished. The seating arrangement should encourage conversation while maintaining clear walkways. Lighting also plays a crucial role; relying solely on overhead fixtures can make the space feel flat, whereas layered lighting adds warmth and depth.

A successful living room balances comfort, function, and visual harmony. Once the layout works logically, decorative elements can enhance the space instead of compensating for underlying design problems.

One of the first things you can do is make sure you have enough lighting. As it is now the room seems very dark. It looks like there may be some downlights present. Are they not turned on?

    @Kahlee Newman

You still haven't posted the dimensions of the room but counting the tiles, they look like 12 x 12, which gives about 10'6" between the base of the peninsula and the wall on the opposite side next to the entrance door. Your new loveseat/chaise measures 5'6" x 5'6" which is huge for the size of the room considering you also need to leave some walking space. So that wasn't the ideal choice and it looks like you now need to keep it. So you need to provide a floorplan with dimensions for any furniture layout suggestions.

Maybe something like this could be a start...

Photo above this comment looks great. After reading all the threads I still have these questions:
Is the light/fan fixture in the middle of the room or is it intended for over the dining area? If it is for the dining area, put table there. Are the packing boxes part of your spouses work that he takes in and out of space, or a temporary moving thing? If they are part of a in/out for work situation, make a space for that now that won’t interrupt your use of your living space. Paint, draperies and other lighting and seating options are necessary. You can find cozy seating that is not so large — can you return the cozy chair? A soft area rug for a living room (not a fluffy bedroom rug) can add to the cozy feeling. Good luck.

Here's a lesson in making a home cozy that has nothing to do with impractical chenille loveseats. Space needs to be massively decluttered before planning layout and purchases.

Decluttering to achieve coziness: No papers or clutter on any surfaces. Colors are warm, windows have light, not dark curtains. (Your gray walls and dark curtains make the space cavelike not cozy.) There are rugs for softness. Multiple lamps on tables or floor create cozy atmosphere. In a visible kitchen, the only items on the countertops are utensils and small appliances you use every day like a coffee maker or a toaster oven. Otherwise, appliances get stowed someplace else. Cleaning products, paper towels, go under the sink. Food goes in cabinets or fridge. Dish drainers go into the sink to keep countertops clean and uncluttered. I don't see any of this in a room you want to look cozy. Ugly things like boxes, paperwork, cleaning supplies are out of sight. I uinderstand your husband needs to stage the boxes for his work, so keep reading because I make a layout suggestion that will keep some of those boxes out of sight to create an "island" in the middle of the room with the sofa you currently have. Here are my suggestions, many of which overlap with what others are say:

    --Cancel the double loveseat ASAP.

--Move your TV by the door then float your current black sofa like this with one side facing TV and the other forming and entryway behind it. If possible, get a console table for a drop zone with a lamp, basket for keys, and space below for staging the boxes your husband needs to bring to work.

--Anchor the current sofa on a large patterned rug that the whole sofa will sit on. This palette of grays, ivory, gold, black. Palette echoes black sofa, new ivory/white curtains you will hang, gold floor, coffee table in wood.

--Down the road, get a sofa in a warm camel color.

--Replace all your curtains with long ivory/white ones and hang them ceiling to floor like this.

--Get a round coffee table in wood or glass and wood that will let patterned rug show through to place in the "L" of the sofa. The wood finish should harmize with the tile floor.

Place wide console table against your sofa back. Your husband can stage his boxes under the bench or console. The sofa back will hide the boxes.

You can get hairpin legs through Etsy (or Ikea) and get a tabletop made at a big box store. Husband's boxes can go below so they're out of sight in the rest of the room.

So you have some work ahead of you. Accept that you need to do a major decluttering and reorganization of all the stuff that is so visible and messy right now. Then move the sofa and TV. Change the curtains. Get a great rug. Buy some art work and some lamps for around the room. Then cuddle up on a functional cozy island where everything harmonizes.

I forgot to suggest dining furniture. Light round table and padded chairs with legs that have the same finish as future console sofa table and coffee table.

There are many great comments here. Take another look at @ Tracy Floyd's rug photos. Those are a decor lesson because they pull together floor tiles and wall color. @Tejji, Inc. has a great tutorial about how to create a harmonious room. Reread them, too.

I am certainly NOT suggesting that posted pictures should resemble a desired result, or even that they shouldn't represent a real life problem that begs a solution!.......But.

This is a home treated as a storage unit. Perhaps a storage unit is what is needed for the routine packing required of samples or whatever for a sales job! Lynco represents a ton of brands, could be that piles of demo materials are required.

The op may have left the conversation, they both may be traveling, but my take is they are very young, no kids, and no effort made when they are at home to even remotely clean up the "damage" of life on the run.

They have to decide how they want to live, and "cozy" should be broadened to include "habitable" ..."pleasant"!!: ) When you can post the condition we see above for all the universe to see, it does make me wonder how much change you really care to effect..

Thanks, Jan, for `your observations. If the couple both has jobs and work on the road, they should hire an organizer and decorator--maybe a stager who does organizing and designing-- to set up the place with rented furniture, a good layout, and make the place homey for this couple so they can start living that way. Then when they settle down, they'll have a feeling for how to set up house. You're right. It's like a storage unit, not a home. They're probably too overwhelmed/tired/busy to take any of our advice.

It's hard to recommend storage solutions without knowing what is in those boxes.

But instead of the loveseat, a sofa with under-storage and a large ottoman with storage would be good options and the ottoman would allow you to put up your legs for comfort.

Plus consider large trunk, and a tall shelving unit with doors to close off the items from sight.
