No one will notice if it’s not centered. You just need adequate lighting.

Maybe use a couple of 4" recessed lights instead of a flush mount fixture. Hard for us to say without seeing all angles.

Maybe a couple of recessed lights but also a wall sconce for mood lighting as recessed lights alone can be blah for a space.

I wouldn't worry about it being centered.

Choose a fixture that is semi flush so it illuminates the space rather than looking like a glowing ball.

Put a light in front of each door that seems to be where the light is needed to start .Get maybe pot lights to make it simple my advice ones with LED 4000K bulbs on dimmers if you do not want it really bright all the time or as suggested just 2 matching flush mounts in a nice style

They do make shallow J boxes for lighting that are only as thick as the drywall...

Thanka all. I foegot to me tion that I don’t like recessed/can lights because I feel they would be out of place in our 1940s house. This needs to be a flushmount light
