Help with master bath layout

last month

I am going to be redoing a master bath in my home. I’ve attached a photo of what it looks like now and 3 options for floor plans. Looking for some feedback on what option is best and if there is anything I am not considering.

For context:

• Bathroom is 10x10 feet. Each square on the grid is 1x1 foot.
• We want to have a full tub tiled in to be able to bath young children

Does RE DO mean new finishes, leaving all the plumbing in the existing locations, or will you be gutting the room and starting over?

Is this a main floor? what do the windows look at? private?

looks like your options only involve the tub and shower?

You aren't interested in changing the location of the toilet or double vanity?

Lyn, we will gut and redo everything location wise if necessary.

Second floor, no one can see in either window and we could put a privacy film if needed.
We are open to moving the vanity or toilet if needed as well.

    Random thoughts:

    - I like this general shape /aisle down the middle -- it's efficient /not so much to keep clean.

    - Each of your designs shows an over-sized tub. I'd consider a smaller /builder-basic size; I personally think a deeper tub is nice, but I see no point to a larger tub footprint. This would allow you a 5' shower, which is nicer than a 4' .

    - I'd put the tub on the end by the window /keep the unusual round window, which has personality.

    - Do consider where you'll hang towels for both the shower and the tub -- fairly often we see layouts in which the shower door blocks a person from reaching the towel.

    - In a perfect world, I'd flip-flop the vanity and the toilet, but moving a toilet stack is real money.

    - I'd downsize to a single sink, which would allow each spouse to have a full set of drawers; especially without a linen closet in the bathroom, storage is always better than a duplicate sink.

Keeping everything in their current location but upgrading is the best option in my opinion because it allows you to add more of the budget into the fixtures and finishes. I do not feel you would gain much by moving anything as the existing locations are really good. You have enough room to enlarge the shower and change the finishes and if you move everything it will cut into your budget immensely. Most bang for the buck is leaving locations as is and spend that budget in upgrades that you will visually see and feel.

I agree with making the tub a smaller size. My grands are 4, 2, 2 and they already shower. The tub gets used occasionally so I would make sure you have one in the house but it doesn't need to be huge.

I would kill for a bigger shower. It will haooen .....someday!

Reverse the door swing. All three options have it opening right into the toilet.

I'm with most about flipping the toilet and vanity along with the door swing. Issue on door swing is that it will now require extra electrical work with the switch location.

Your drawings also remove linen storage, so that probably should be added somehow with the new vanity configuration.

The circular window probably locks the tub location as it is. I wouldn't trust a window like that being a sidewall of a shower with all of that moisture.

A freestanding tub (even though tile was mentioned) would also look better and take up less space. Having a special fst drain installed makes for swapping out down the road rather easy.

You might as well go all in if major work is already happening.

    Good luck!

: ) REALLY hate that toilet location. Kids don't need more than 54" tub, they shower by age four and love it.

IMO a short tub is just useless for anyone who might even need a tub at some point you have space for a 60" deep soaker and a 60" shower thtat shower can be deeper like 4". I do agree the toiley is in a weird spot but maybe just just change the door to swing out , which BTW is a good idea anyway. The kids as they grow will find their own bathroom to use so they really do not figure in this for too long . I bathe every night so a nice deep soaker is a must for me in a master even my hubby liked to have anice soak once in awhile . I had 3 boys 2 of them are still alive and love a good soak from time to time . IMO moving a toilet can open a real can of worms if the plumbing is not easily accessed

You might want to consider a tub in a walk in shower. Google ”tub in walk in shower” I think they are beautiful. I have put a link below, just copy and paste.
