Art (subject, size and placement) is very subjective.

Get the bench first and then use blue tape to outline the different sizes of the art. Which do you prefer? That will be the right size to buy!

If people will sit on the bench, the artwork should be hung high enough so they don't hit their heads on it. That will determine what size to order.

People aren't supposed to sit back while using an entry bench, so I would go large and lower. Too small and placed up high it will look like it doesn't relate to the bench.

If you have kids, then you might not want an expensive piece of art where they could bang into it.

Thanks for the comments! Chispa--i really appreciate the photos. I've been focused on portrait orientation only, but I'm now seeing other shapes work well also. While I LOVE the one I had chosen, that particular company (Desenio) gets very mixed reviews on TrustPilot so I'm a little leery of ordering from them. That exact piece is only available on their site, darn! I'll do some more looking, I might find another piece/shape I like as much as I Ilke my original choice.

I have ordered the bench and will try out different sizes and shapes after I have it in place, and will update with photos. I am leaning towards a LARGE piece, though.

as a statement piece as you enter your home, I would choose the largest size.

You have plenty of room and as you say, the bench won't be used often.

Gosh, oncape-- just because someone gives me advice DOES NOT mean I have to follow it! I did say I appreciate all comments, suggestions and opinions--even criticism. I'm always interested in others opinions, and I HAVE followed some of that advice.

Also--I chose that specific art because I LIKE it, not because it "goes with" everything in our home!

Anyway, I'm sorry if you were offended and insulted--I hope you have a great rest of your day!

Buy the bench. Then use painters tape to see if the painting can be hung at the right height and will look good. It will help you visualize the proportions.

For curtains in another room, I would probably start a new thread, BUT put a link to any old threads that have other photos that some people might want to see to get a bigger "picture" of your overall design style.

Depending on height sometimes you can slide a bench below a console table. For foyers, you often need the bench, the table and lights to complete the look

Thanks Beverly! I do like that look--although I'm not sure it would work with the bench I have ordered. I have thought about finishing touches, I think "something else" besides the bench and art will be needed. Possible a small table of some sort? It's a slow process for me!

Your other post shows the entry width to be 45". The bench is 16" deep which will constrict the path to 29". That is very, very narrow. @kendrah had good advice - forego the furniture and hang large art. I understand you've already ordered the bench - in the meantime, you can remove all the existing furniture and wall art, tape the wall with the canvas size you're considering as well as a wider, longer rug to get a sense of what it will feel like to move through the space, greet guests, access the closet. Better? Worse?

If you must add a furniture piece, consider a very shallow, long table. There are pieces available in the 7"-10" range that might work for you.

The entry is narrow right after the front door, but the width where the bench will be is actually over 8" wide--it's hard to see on the floor plan. It still might feel a little crowded, but we'll see after it's in place. If it doesn't work, I have another spot for the bench, and then I'll go to plan B--which is a smaller console table!
