What size hardware should I get for my cabinets.

last month

Hi everyone, I am repainting my cabinets and want to get new hardware. Question 1. Where are the best places to look and get it? 2. and having a hard time deciding on what sizes. AI says to use multiple sizes 7" for smaller drawers and 10- 12" on larger drawers. Don't want it to look to crazy what does everyone think about it. One size or multiple?

there are many great sources for cabinet hardware. what works for your budget and style.

The size depends on the look you are after.

I prefer pulls to knobs on my cabinets.

Also, think about getting caught on lower hardware if the ends are exposed.

I generally like at least one long bar type pull to hang a tea towel on near my prep area.

Do you have some photos? what colors are you working with? style? Budget?

Not a fan of all one size, mostly because the pulls on the smaller drawers wind up being oversized.

I used a variety of sizes, in proportion sizes of the drawers.

Top Knobs is an excellent source for cabinet hardware. You can visit their website. However, the Top Knobs line is carried at cabinet stores, specialty door hardware stores, and many kitchen supply stores.

Pulls on drawers and knobs on doors is an option.

The style and finish should complement the design of the cabinets and the other metal finishes in the kitchen.

The least expensive source I found for cabinet hardware was IKEA.

Of course HD and Lowes is always an obvious source.

IMOit depends on the style of the cabinets for sure . So can we see your kitchen please . I do not like a mix of knobs and pulls in a modern kitchen and in those I do pulls to be in proportion to the size of drawer and sometimes even some vertical and some horizontal on doors . I spend a lot of time laying out handles with painters tape until I get it right.. This pic shows exactly what I am talking about . So please post a pic of your space

In general, I prefer pulls on drawers and knobs on doors. I roughly follow the guideline that pull size should be about a 1/3 the width of the drawer. I start with that and I then decide if it looks better a bit larger or smaller. I used 3 different sized pulls in my kitchen, because I have some narrow drawers and some much wider drawers.

I also think that oversized pulls can look ok in a very modern/contemporary style kitchen, but not in a traditional/transitional style kitchen.

Show the kitchen. What doors, how many drawer and what size the drawers? What is the style of drawer and door front?

You haven't enough context around your question for very relevant answers . AI is a guess as is all above without more context: )

It is also best to remain in one thread, when talking about one room.........

This is you below asking on "gold"??

As with most things 'to each their own". I've listened to designers croon about hardware being the "jewelry of the kitchen", other's focus on function. What do you want? Do you want the THING that is most commented on when visitors come into your space "gosh I love your door handles" or do you want them to be one part of an over all beautiful room? Outfitting a kitchen in pulls and knobs is not an inexpensive endeavor. Love what you choose!! The long bars I see on drawers are really not necessary for the glide of the drawers. Their unseen hardware controls the easy glide, so more subtle will still give you what you need to open them.

Go to Knobs4Less online. Great selection. Always buy samples before buying for all the doors and drawers. You need to see the actual colors they offer. (Bronze, golds, etc. can look very different.)

If you use pulls - which are best for drawers - make sure the posts are tall enough for a bigger hand. If there is a male person in the family, their hand needs to easily fit inside the pull. Buying samples and attaching them to a piece of wood will give you the best test of the size being comfortable.

A mix of knobs on doors and pulls on drawers is a good look. Many manufacturers may have only one that you like in a favored style, so keep looking. You will find a good mix of knobs and pulls is your desired finish eventually.
