That does look like it. Hard to tell in the light. Mine is very neutral. Not gold.

Stainless mosaic . Believe me you will love it. It's timeless. And brings light in. You have dark cabinets and gray wall, gray and cream granite with movement. You need a solid , simple look.

What about a subway 3 X 6 cream (clear) colored glass tile. Simple but beautiful.

Painted glass always looks nice, and its cheaper and never looks dated.

Without seeing the granite, I suggest something to go with the cabinets and hardware, a product traditional yet modern…penny rounds.

The granite is beautiful and elegant. I think almost any pattern on the backsplash, including penny rounds or a stainless mosaic, will detract from it somewhat. I like the idea of painted glass.

Still like the 4 x 12 glass tiles ... you could even go with a light gray

@indianpatti and @noelinaz -- I also think that mosaic, or other small pattern will be too busy too. I do like the 4 x 12 glass tiles. In my area, I am quite limited as to tile showrooms, but I will go take a look. I gray/taupe color would be my top choice for the best match to the granite and rest of house. You can see the stone fireplace in the second picture and the granite colors are echoed there.

I got the light gray subway glass tile. I love it. my granite is almost your color. it did come out a little darker than I thought, but still looks ok. make sure you go light.

You can do almost anything, Look around yourself and talk to designers at the tile store near you. You can do more of a pattern or stronger color/design.

We have lights all installed now, so??? I hope to have time to tile shop today or tomorrow

Look at glass tile.

Seriously beautiful. I had the same granite installed in 2 homes. My last home the granite was very light (no gold) and I installed glass and travertine tiles (long and thin) but thought it looked too busy. My current home has the same granite but with a little more gold in it and I installed 2"x4" tumbled marble with a small accent of glass mosaic (to bring out the dark red in the granite). My cabinets are cream with a dark island. I think your cabinets are more modern than traditional so the stainless backsplash would look good but I doubt it to be timeless. Go with something simple in a subway pattern if you want timeless. Backsplashes are an inexpensive way of updating the kitchen if you want to keep it current.

Hi amandala, Congrats on your kitchen ! Your kitchen looks quite nice as it is, even without any backsplash. I'm not a fan of busy, either (even granite is too busy for me :) --

@emmadunkirk. Thank you!, I like stainless, but I agree, it's not timeless. This is our empty nest house on family property so we will not leave until they carry us out:). So I do want as timeless as I can get. I know my cabinets are more contemporary now. My thought is that shaker is timeless design so years from now, paint and a hardware change would transform to an entirely new look without a major kitchen rehaul:)

Go with a light brown taupe or light grey subway remember it will look darker once it is up. I forgot to get you the name of the brand i used. I will look when I get home.

I vote for subway tile. Mosaic already looks dated in my unprofessional opinion. Too trendy.

Simple is best, so backsplash "texture" does not compete with the granite "texture". Good decision, avoiding mosaic with this granite. Subway tile is classic, (any size will be good, but 3x6 or larger scale is best). Keep the clean look (no tumbled). The most classic, timeless material, is white or off white ceramic (coordinate with the white in your granite). Glass subway is a more updated look, and will be around a long time also. The tiles you have mocked up in that photo are nice....hard to tell, but it looks like the color is good!

@laura, thanks! The color is not quite as greenish as the photo looks. I really would like to find some subway tiles in a taupe/Gray.

Try looking at American Olean or Daltile...both are available on-line, and have gray subway in glass and ceramic. Order samples, before purchasing!

Not too large at all. Measure the space from top of countertop to underside of cabinets. If it is the typical 18" dimension, then, at 4 tiles high, you'll have an extra 2" or so (depending on actual size of tile, they typically vary slightly from the size indicated) minus the grout joint. There are many ways to deal with the extra space....sometimes a row of another tile, like a liner, or mosaics, or some accent. Or the tile can simply be cut, however, if that's what you decide, then keep the cut tile at the top, so it's not as noticeable. hope that helps!

Hi, I am about to install some 4 x 12 tiles in stacked pattern backsplash on my new counters. I can't wait to see them done!. I went to a Daltile showroom and a few other places to see as much as I could before deciding. My tiles are not a Daltile product, but the salesperson there was extremely helpful. It should all be done in 2 weeks.

Amanda- the brand above is Chrystile. The color I am using is called Silver Spring. It is a grey-ish green. There were many other great color choices in this line.

If you go with glass Subway tile make sure you get lots of samples as the lighting can change the hue of the tile as glass tiles are very reflective. We would be happy to help you find the right color so please let us know if you need any help or have questions.

Thanks @leahladd! I think they are birch. They are custom built and the stain was a custom color. I believe the cabinet maker said they achieved by first spraying with red mahogany and then spraying again with ebony. The colors are not mixed together but layered. It turned out exactly like I had hoped it would. I do love them:)

Hood and cooktop went in yesterday. I'm looking at the Daltile 4x12 tiles in maybe urban putty or similar color.

I thought I would share a couple of pictures of the finished product! Ended up with Daltile subway tile in Architectural Gray. I love it. I hope you can see from pics that behind cooktop, we used a herringbone pattern. My husband did this while I was away on business so it was a great surprise!

Amanda, do you have Wordly Gray throughout your house? What undertone do you see? And what direction is your natural light from? I'm thinking of trying it (I've already unsuccessfully tried some other grays). I need a neutral gray throughout my house - my family room has windows in the south and north - I just don't want a gray I choose to look pink or purple and everything seems to on the walls with the northern facing windows. BTW, I've already have giant white foam boards that I've used with paint samples and have moved them around - but it's still so hard for me to tell. Any help would be appreciated :)

@christy25 I have worldly gray in my kitchen, dining, den,halls which are all open to each other. Like you, I went through so many grays. We have north and south facing windows and I don't see any pink or purple at all! I'm very happy with it. It's a good neutral "greige". I used it at 25% tint for ceilings so mouldings really pop.
