Fireplace Makeover

Getting ready to add some life to this tired old brick fireplace by facing with glass tile (palm pattern in lagoon from Island Stone) and surrounding with custom shelving, cabinets and mantle. Demo started last week; expect completion end of Nov. Adding pics as the work progresses.

I would just cut straight down from fireplace and remove little side walls leaving a central fireplace - repaint and job done!

We are very excited to see the results of the Palms installed. Please post!

Well - some progress on the fireplace! Old brick is gone and surround has been refaced with Island Stone glass tiles (palm pattern in lagoon). Grouting on Monday. And though the photo highlights the fireplace, new smaller windows are in as is all the electrical for the flat screen TV to be mounted over the mantle.

Beautiful built ins. I live the windows above them. I would live to see the rest of the room and how you incorporated that interesting tile color into it.

We have ordered a beautiful 9x12 handmade rug from Nepal which will tie these colors together. Here is a sample shown with the tile and wall color. The final room won't be completed until March - rug takes 4 months to complete (ordered it in Nov).
Western gal- the rug is gorgeous and well worth the wait.
This is what the rug will look like when completed - with the plum background color instead of the red.

westerngal55. Beautiful update!! Love the tile with contrasting grout. Can I ask u - what does the exterior wall of your house look like where you made those windows smaller?
    Thanks

I think you did a fabulous job. the TV does not overpower the fireplace or the area above with the windows. the built-ins are beautiful and functional. The glass tiles are gorgeous.I Iike how they come in sets of already angled pieces.
Also, I want to be sure that you have had your chimney inspected so that it is safe. I would like to see the room when furnished.

nice transformation. Where did you order the rug? my kitchen main color is a lighter shade of the tiles, the secondary color on the wall leading to my foyer is gold. I've been trying to find a rug with at least those 2 colors and the gold being more dominant. Was thinking since the walls in my LR/DR are gold, I want to do a rug with the green/blue to carry it over from the kitchen that is next to it.

Love the final results but I still like the old brick. Aging the old brick and removing it along the wall would have been enough for me. all the same, Enjoy your new room.

absolutely stunning built-ins. Tile seems a little out of synch with the Craftsman/traditional wood design, but hey, it's not my house. Windows look great. You must be very, very happy!
What is the color on the wall?
To pharod60 - the paint color is Polynesia - Behr paint. Purchased at Home Depot.
