I'd pull some darker tones from the wood in the room...you can then play with fabric that has some texture or tone on tone geometric/repetitive patterns. A velvet also adds some luxury to the space but depending can get outdated. I'm assuming the headboard will be there for a while? Don't use lighter Colors as the oils from the head will soon start to appear. A nice grey would look good but darker Colors would give more contrast

What are your options for rearranging the furniture you have to provide two bedside tables and two bedside lamps? I would buy four standard bed pillows instead of trying to make the mirror into a padded headboard mounted on the wall.

Panel curtains to match the bedding would be nice if you have time. Otherwise, clear out the floor, the closet and the dresser so they have space for their things. Add empty hangers.

What I would do? Use the mirror somewhere as a mirror. Don't bother covering it. Then, make quick curtains out of sheets... they are already sewn/hemmed and can be reused later as sheets again. Inexpensive, crisp white will look fine with the bedding you have. Get a set of curtain rings with clips, and clip them up there. Done in 5 minutes. Hang another curtain rod above the bed, and do the same as a headboard for the bed... gives the room the illusion of two windows. 15 more minutes. No sewing. Coordinating toss pillow...15 bucks max? Two nice reading lamps on either side of the bed...Target or Walmart...and you're done! Please post a pic when you're done! We love instant, cheap makeovers!

Vase with whatever you can get in this season, very generous greenery, whatever. Put it on the table/desk/whatever. Don't worry, your parents probably love you. In fact, if you have time for neat lettering, or not, put a card saying "I love you" there too.

Another nice addition would be a white dust ruffle. :)

Make headboard a solid white. Get a another end table TJMax or Ikea for great price. And walk out with furn. Lamps on both ends white base and shades. Put a white bed skirt under mattress , add more sleeping pillows to bed, get nice high thread count sheets white go over 600. Fold dn comfort a 1/3 of the way. Add a white fur throw still foot. A soft fuzzy rug beside bed. Does desk have to stay? Make sure there are hangers in closet and space to put their clothes. Is there a small white dresser. A pretty sunburst mirror over bed hang 6" above headboard. Try to center bed on wall more. In guest bathroom. Get a basket and fill with sample size, tooth paste, shampoo, lotion, Q tips, extra tooth brushes. Nice fluffy white towels and extra ones too. Make sure all is spotless. Get some nice candles for side of bed and bath. Light just before they arrive. Some bottled water next to bed is always welcomed. TJMax another good place to buy all the above. Target for sample size or any market. Fluffy rug near shower also.

Forget the pillow covers. Just extra sleeping pillows. Soft. you want bed to be comfy. If hard may want to get a egg crate over mattress. Nothing worse than a bed that is too hard. Extra, blanket in closet in case.

Are you keeping that blue comforter? If so then a white velvet would work. Or for fun a fuzzy fabric. For headboard.

You could just cover with a white sheet, just staple to back . Quick fix. Is mirror long enough for a headboard? Add the sunburst mirror over it, or if mirror is long enough. Just drop a few inches behind bed. And use it as a headboard no cover. Then add a big picture over bed. 36" hang low. A mirrored headboard would be awesome. You could also get a cheap mirror you hang behind doors usually 5-6 ft run long ways, that could work too. Lamps are important. You need light. Get Two. Get some book they may want put by bed.

Move the bed under the window, put the chest at the foot of the bed, dresser on closet wall, move table and chair out, do lamps, end tables and lots of pillows as suggested above, have fun with your parents!

They'll sleep better if the foot of the bed is the first thing they see opposite the entry door. I think that's where it is now. Put the bench under the window and the chest where bench is in pix.

DANGER, DANGER!! Do not use a covered mirror as a headboard! Get a couple of large bolster pillows to fill in the space between the wall and mattress, then pile on the pillows as apple pie suggests.
Not too keen on the office chair- everything else looks fine. You might want to drape some fabric over the curtain rod.

LOVE the idea of using sheets as curtains.....cheap and simple and done! I would move the desk under the window and slide the bed down to make room for it. Move the dresser over by the closet and keep the bench at the foot of the bed. When you are getting more pillows for the bed, get one to prop on the bench, too. It would be nice to have a mirror over the dresser for them to use while getting ready for the day with you. Place the alarm clock on the table by the bed and put the laundry basket in the closet. Have fun with your parents!

If you have some photos or pictures to add on the walls it would give the room some more color, warmth. I've used greeting card pictures that I love in frames. Maybe you have something lying around the house. I also like the idea of hanging a sheet behind the bed. I have a lightweight throw on a rod hanging from the ceiling behind my bed. The room and things you have in there put together a bit more will be a really nice guest room. Most of all, enjoy your parent's visit. They came to see you not a room.

Kim- Are the folks there yet safe and sound? Just wondered how it came out? 1.5 hours and 'on the cheap' is my favorite kind of room makeover... because it is usually how I end up doing things! :)

I'll just add that wherever you decide to shop for things - don't do TJ Maxx or some other hit or miss place; go to somewhere where you will find things that coordinate since your time is short. Target, JC Penney - will have things that are inexpensive and go together.
