Danze vs Moen faucets

I am looking for an oil rubbed bronze pullout sink faucet. Kohler just didn't have enough of a selection in oil rubbed. From past experience can anyone give me insight on which company to go with and why. Thanks

Both of those are good. I think Danze is more expensive. Ours isn't a pullout but almost all our faucets are Moen. You wouldn't go wrong choosing a Moen.

I'm sure a pro could jump in here and give you a recommendation, but stay away from Moen-it has become a junk brand and my local plumbing shop won't carry it. We got an Aquabrass faucet in a copper finish a couple of years ago for our island. It's the same as the other faucets we have in the bar and the main kitchen sink and which we have been happy with but the finish is starting to show wear. I don't really mind because we have a natural copper sink in the island but if I wanted something which would keep a consistent look, I wouldn't be happy. Delta, Price Pfister are also lower quality brands which I would avoid.

For starters Danze has a short history in the USA, not that its a bad product, on the other hand Moen has a long history. Personally RSR Development Design Built has used Moen on several of its projects, on one such project one of the faucets had an issue we contacted Moen and the company immediately provided excellent customer service and shipped out a replacement. I am not promoting Moen nor Danze, just stating an experience. An added plus is that Moen is well priced product and easily available anywhere.

When I was looking for faucets for our new kitchen and bath I found a great article that compared all of the faucet manufacturers, and got quite an education. If I can find the link, I will post it. Here's just a bit of what I remember. Make sure you are comparing apples to apples. A Moen faucet (or Kohler or Delta, etc.) purchased at a big box store may not be of the same quality as the exact same model faucet that a professional might buy at a plumbing-supply. These brands also manufacture plumbing fixtures specifically for Lowe's and Home Depot, which are made more cheaply, with plastic parts. Also, these companies say they guarantee their faucets for life, but if you buy at HD or Lowe's, you have to contact the company directly (and make sure you save your receipt for life too). Phister is no longer "Price-Phister", and they have gained a reputation for changing out their styles quite often, and not stocking parts for their older models. Danze is made in China, and it's quite difficult, or even sometimes impossible, to get replacement-parts from them too.

Lesley, I did not realize that Moen et al. had different lines for plumbing vs big box stores. I have bought a couple of Moen faucets in the past and noticed that their quality deteriorated over the years. They used to be a very reliable, good quality brand.
I have a Sign of the Crab faucet in the master bathroom which retails for ove $600. My plumbing store always has parts or can contact the manufacturer for info and even though it is a dozen years old, they can still provide me with what I need. That being said though, the finish is brass which is notoriously fussy and is getting in need of refinishing. I suspect that an oil rubbed bronze finish is, like brass, not as maintenance free and durable as, say, a chrome, nickel or stainless finish. If it is an all brass base though, it can always be refinished.

I'm sorry to hear Moen isn't that great anymore as that's what we just bought for our kitchen when we get our new countertop next week.

I wouldn't be at all surprised if Home Depot, Lowes and other big box stores do as Walmart does and demand their suppliers give them the products at a specific price, often requiring them to manufacture items specifically for their store. WalMart tried this on Snapper lawn mowers and the owner refused because he didn't want to sell an inferior product, and lose their reputation for quality. Because of that, WalMart doesn't sell Snapper, and Snapper doesn't want them to.
Actually, the plumbing-supply place where I bought my faucets said Moen is fine, just don't buy the ones they manufacture for the big-box stores, or open the box, and make sure your parts are solid brass, not plastic.

I have had Danze faucets in my kitchen and guest bath for many years and it has been a great brand for me.

    Lesley:
Danze has overcome its former parts issues, and now has one of the smoothest post-sale support operations in the U.S. It has been almost 4 years since we have had a complaint about Danze warranty or customer service. It's not quite up to Moen yet, but it is coming on fast. Moen, of course, has what is probably the best post-sale support in the faucet world.

    maureenroth:
I don't know where the idea has originated that Moen quality is decreasing. If anything, the opposite is true. Delta is also making quite large quality strides. Its new diamond seal technology cartridges are a large step forward in faucet cartridge technology that has the rest of the faucet world sprinting to catch up. Both Moen and Delta used to offer somewhat dated and stogy designs, but they are improving very quickly to stay competitive the the Europeans.

Both Moen and Delta manufacture primarily in the U.S. Danze is a Globe Union Industrial product, made in its giant Chinese factory. Aquabrass is a Canadian importer of Italian faucets. Its faucets are made by IB Rubinetterie and Treemme, both highly regarded mid-size manufacturers that sell their faucets under their own brand names in Europe, but through Aquabrass and Julien, Inc. in North America.

Bought a Danze kitchen pull down/out faucet at Canadian Tire. After two days, the button stopped working, and it wouldn't go into spray mode from stream.

We returned it, an got another, which did exactly the same thing three days in. So we checked the on line reviews, and guess what...everybody else has had the same problem. This product is not ready for market.

Don't buy Danze unless you want practice at installing faucets.

It is worth the little bit of extra money to buy Moen or American Standard for your fixture. Danze is not very reputable brand.

Moen has been my pick for my remodels. Delta is nice too. I buy online Amazon through plumbers warehouse seller. Saves a ton and free 2 day shipping

    @ RSR DEVELOPMENT Company

Not so sure about American Standard faucets. American Standard is no longer the reliable, if somewhat staid, American company of our youth.

In 2007 the old American Standard Companies was broken up. Bain Capital (Mitt Romney) bought the kitchen and bath division and reorganized it as a new company, American Standard America (A-S America). Then Bain sold a majority interest in A-S America to Sun Capital Partners. Sun Capital, in turn, bought out Crane Plumbing and Eljer, which, with A-S American became American Standard Brands. All but one of the old A-S, Crane and Eljer factories in the US. were closed. In 2012 Sun sold out to LIXIL, the giant Japanese building products and home improvement company. The next year, LIXILbought Grohe, the German faucet company.

American Standards faucets are no longer made in the U.S. -- in fact, only about a dozen of A-S America's thousands of bath and kitchen products are made in the U.S. in its only remaining factory in Nevada, MO (a former Crane factory). Most products, and all faucets, are assembled in Mexico from parts and components made in China, then imported into the U.S. and Canada.

While Danze is a newer brand, our parent company Globe Union, has been around for more than 80 years in the plumbing industry. We pride ourselves on selling high-quality products and providing excellent customer service. If you need a part, just call our 800 number and we can ship our parts to you overnight. You can learn more about our products and warranty here. I hope this helps you with your decision.

We remodeled our kitchen 10 years ago. The first fancy faucet to match the copper sink failed so the kitchen designer recommended a Danze. That one failed after a few years and they sent me a new faucet for free. That was great but it still had to be installed which if I called a plumber would likely be $300+. This is a $400+ faucet. So, I did it my self. Now the 2nd faucet is having problems. The handle keeps falling off and I suspect it needs a new cartridge. So I am wondering if I should just get a new faucet or spend time and money trying to fix this one. Out house is over 100 yrs old and the faucets that were in the house when we bought it 14 yr ago are working no issues. These are most likely "cheap" 70's faucets. The Danze looks great but I would like to get more than 3-4 years from it.

Gadz. Reading about bad quality of newer faucets makes me want to keep my 28-year old Chicago brand bathroom sink and tub chrome crosses with ceramic buttons. : (

I need help with my last move into a retirement place. I could only bring a few pieces for my living room/dining room. I am going black, white, grey with seasonal pops of color. Right now I'm still in my summer seashell and silver look. I'm tired of all brass accessories and now use white, crystal, mirror and black.....with gray accents. I had management paint walls white and they will stay that way. Here's my question: I would like to slipcover sofa in either gray or black and then use my white cover for summer. I change around accessories every season. My art on walls is now my own paintings. My little glass top table is my daughters as mine was way too big. The gold leaf mirror behind table I want to paint black. No more gold for me. The lamps are crystal and I put on black shades for winter(which in AZ is a misnomer). Took some pics for all of your suggestions....will add fall accessories next week. Limited budget - will buy good quality if necessary. Sofa is pale yellow that has been reupholstered 7 times. It is 46 years old and heavy and made in NC. GOT ANY NEW IDEAS AND THINGS TO BE CHANGED OR LET GO. I am 74 but love to decorate.

You should keep your Chicago faucet. After 28 years, it is just getting broke in. Or, buy a new Chicago, made exactly the way they were 28 years ago.

I am trying to fix my Danze. Customer service is good but slow. They are shipping me parts no charge but while I was waiting for a response from them I purchased the parts locally. Having taken apart the faucet it is very well made. I think the problem is these cartridges and the parts which are used in the newer designs. I found this while searching for help,

"Modern cartridges are quite high precision and have small orifices and
passages to meet the flow restrictions in the US so they are more apt
to clog than old fashioned faucets."

I still have little or no hot water so there is probably something clogged below the cartridge.

If I do need to replace the faucet I will probably get another Danze. I don't think its any worse than similar styles and I do like the tumbled bronze color.

Clean out the aerator. Odds are a clogged aerator is the problem. Flow restriction is not usually built into the cartridge, it is a function of the aerator.

I cleaned the aerator first. The flow problem is there when the aerator is off

We just bought a house in Sedona. It was built in 2007 and the Danze model D454557 Tumbled Bronze in the kitchen is leaking out the body down under the sink. Danze won't honor their lifetime warranty so we're going to have to replace multiple faucets in the kitchen in order to maintain the appearance. Even though we weren't the original owner, you'd think they'd still stand behind their product.

"Danze won't honor their lifetime warranty..."

I would appreciate a little more information. What reason was give by customer service for not complying with its warranty? Do you have a claim number? I would like to follow up on this if you don't mind.

I bought a Danze faucet in 2007. It has worked well without any problems at all until about a month ago. The faucet was leaking in the spray head, so I called Danze's customer service, was speaking to a customer service rep in less than a minute and he was able to replace the part for free. Wonderful customer support and the whole phone call lasted less than five minutes. I would highly recommend Danze and would definitely buy another Danze faucet in the future.

    @Eleanora Theodora,

That is a typical response from Danze, our Best Value choice in a mid-priced Asian faucet. (See the full 2017 Best Value report at http://starcraftcustombuilders.com/PDF/2017BestValueFaucets.pdf.

You also would have gotten that sort of excellent help from Moen. Glad you are happy w/ your Danze purchase.

For five years I've had a big box Moen that gets a ton of use in a powder room. No problems at all. My master has Moen's better line. Perfect. My son's bathroom has a builder grade Price Phister that's 23 years old. No experience with Danze, except for a drop ell, which is very attractive and well made. I have Brizo (Delta) in the kitchen and I will attest to their excellent customer service as I've had to replace the cartridge.

We put in Danze faucets 15 years ago in our master bathroom. After just a couple of years the finish started to deteriorate. We replaced the faucet on the tub (at our cost) plus the cost to remove and replace using our plumber. Then the same thing happened. We left it. About that time the handles stopped shutting off the water so the plumber fixed those. Happened several more times and he came out and dealt with it. Unbeknownst to us there were small leaks in the tub handles and the finish continued to deteriorate on the sink faucets. We won't even go into the leak in the shower...... which has now been ripped out past the subfloor...... So I finally paid to have everything taken out and called in a claim with Danze. At first all they wanted was pictures so I sent those of the damaged parts and the damage to the bathroom. No need to mail the parts..... Then after 3 weeks and more than my share of phone calls getting cut off or relayed to the wrong department they say if I mail everything back to them (have you weighed brass fixtures lately?) they are willing to possibly send replacements IF they determine there is failure. Now you can see the damage to the finish. The representative admitted this on a phone call. That alone voids the warranty. They are authorized to send replacements, but after spending thousands of dollars ripping out stuff to get to the bottom of leaks and paying a plumber many times to repair their poorly manufactured product, WHY WOULD I PUT THAT STUFF BACK IN MY HOME? And NOW, since I've turned in some of the damage (because the shower has had to be completely ripped out and that's not cheap) they will not process anything. DEAD STOP. Ask yourself this question, are you willing to roll the dice on a company that has waited weeks while you are without a bathroom to then tell you a completely different story about how they will not honor their warranty? I've had Moen, Delta and Kohler in three homes. And NEVER had a problem with warranty replacements on parts or products. I've NEVER had it take more than a couple of weeks. I hope that my experience helps others look very closely at the warranty wording. DANZE FAUCETS requires you to send back products, at your expense. That involves weeks of work and weeks when your bathroom is out of commission.

I would recommend Danze repeatedly. Great products that lasted fault free for over 10 years and then a completely no questions asked approach to honoring warranty on parts and finishes. Will always buy Danze.

I have multiple Danze products and all of them had issues within a couple of years. The protective finish on the brushed nickel began wearing/peeling off, especially on faucet handles which looks terrible. The bathroom sink faucets having growing rust spots on them (I'm careful to avoid getting cleaner on them). The cartridge in the shower went bad within 4 years and had to be replaced (customer service provided free of charge and we installed it ourselves). The tub and kitchen faucets had water pouring out around the base every time we turned them on. By contrast, the Delta faucet and Moen shower from Lowe's that I put in a different bathroom 12 years ago still work and look like new.
