Need Help:Load Bearing Wall

I live in a small home that was built in 1942 in upstate New York. Like most old homes, there is a load bearing wall between the dining room and the small kitchen. A chimney runs on the side of this wall closest to the front of the house- bordering a very small corridor between theses two separate spaces. In an effort to gain a more open floor plan, does anyone have any suggestions? I'm open to anything, but will not add pictures for means of privacy and security.
