Hi Retha, I am not a pro but I have had the same problem in a rental before. Somethings you might want to think about are:

1) Using a different lighting fixture in the dining area to separate the space from the living room. Maybe something larger to match the scale of the room?

2) Perhaps adding an area rug under the dining table. or even using a larger rug in the living room (it's a bit hard to tell from the picture) This can help define the two separate spaces

3) How about finding a nice large painting or picture to use some of the wall space you have? and

4) adding a couple of floating shelves with 2 or 3 things on each (I don't like cluttered shelves either :) to make a separation from the living spaces also helps to break up that long wall.
