We are building a ranch home and we have an option to have flat ceilings or ceilings that angle toward the ridge line of the roof. Our architect is advocating that we capture the angled roof line in all of the rooms, thus maximizing the volume of the home. I feel that we should put in 8-9 foot flat ceilings in the bedrooms and attached room: bathrooms and closets. I think the high angled ceiling is appropriate in the social areas of the home--great room, dining room, and kitchen, but not in the bedrooms. I think the bedrooms should have flat ceilings to foster a sense of settling and containment. I view it as the difference between a party hat and night cap, but maybe that is just the caveman in me. What are your thoughts?
