Painting done, I need help!

I recently had my home painted Palladian Blue. I need help with choosing colours and furnishings for my living room that will complement my home. I like a cottage country feel. Any suggestions are welcome. My actual living room space is 12 x 13 not including the dining area.

The more I look at the cushions, I am agreeing more and more w s mistry. Too many solids...pattern would be best. Originally I only looked at the cushions next to the chair and blue table, but when I imagine them in same room as solid couch, blue table, and blue walls, I'm thinking pattern is best.

Valerie, I like the flooring you think is "too dark".

Can you bring samples of the lighter and put in the same spot?

Not sure, I am having trouble following because I am so far behind!!

The PB seaglass one I linked this morning

Mistry, that is very pretty. I think the sea glass with tie in nicely!

Sorry I just realized there were still posts here. Thanks for answering S Mistry :)

Here is the other link in case anyone missed it. Unfortunately Kathi I brought back that flooring. I found it too dark. I really think I want to stick to a white.
I had another sample of a rustic type is too seemed to dark to me.
I do have a couple samples of a really light blonde colour but it looks too yellow to me. I will try and post some pics of it tomorrow.
    Link to living room post.
Should I start a new link for flooring? Or keep posting here or the other link. ?

A new thread for flooring would be good

Idea I just saw the beige blue and ivory rug you posted on Sunday! I have missed comments even days later.
Ok S Mistry I will make a new post/thread tomorrow for the bedroom flooring. :)
Sorry can't put other link up again unless I go to actual website. I am too tired to do it tonight. Tomorrow I will post the links again and the new thread link. :)

Oh sounds like nice day idea! I am glad you enjoyed it.
I love both the seashell bowls. :) I actually have some of that coral. Mine is of course! Blue, I also some some coral coloured coral but I may have donated it. I don't think it would have went anyways.
Do you and S Mistry suggest one big bowl in the middle of the table? (The table under the mirror)
I am going to hold off looking for something to put on dining table until after the new light is hung. :)
Ok that's about it for me nite all you little elves workin in the. Background :)

Idea, I don't know! I was looking for bowls and came across the sea glass art and mind started spinning. Figured she would need some for bedroom or maybe the sunroom when we get to those rooms. Art.com has very inexpensive prints that can be framed using stock off the shelf frames from a place like Aaron Brother or Michaels. Or even a small 5x 7 to put in a frame on the bedside tables. Just personal touches I always like to add

    Omg those coral rugs. Beautiful!!
Good morning all, I just realized I commented on a lot of these comments over on the other post. oooops it's early and I got confused lol Please go there to read as I don't want to re type in here.
Please again leave everything up as I do reread and always find something I missed!
Hope you are all having a wonderful day and I will be on later. :) see you then.
I just measured the sunroom for 7 x 7 round. It would be too big and take up all almost all floor space in the room. I wanted smaller to see more tile. I will post room dimensions later. Right now I am reading back to see if other round or oval rugs suggested are smaller. Maybe tape off area to see what you think :)
Ps I really like the coral one if anyone finds it or similar in a smaller round!
Idea hound I saw a rug while scrolling back this morning you posted either here or other post. It was I think blues and maybe light green too. It was a braided one. I have scrolled up and down and can't find it as I wanted to take a better look.
Wonder if I should make new post for sunroom rug and curtains suggestions?
Idea if you still have this rug could you post again?

It's ok ideahound I found it! Saved in my idea book!

Here's a link to the mfr page of the Safavieh coral rug. It comes in various sizes. You just need to track it down. 5 x5 round might work

Oh thank you S Mistry! I think 5 x 5 should be just right I will tape off in a bit to show.

The other one I like is Ideas braided one. Is that fairly easy to clean? Worry about sand and pet hair getting trapped between those grooves

They are easy to clean and never show dirt. I have one in Canada under the sink and I used to have one in the living room. :)
I am taking room measurements now to get ready for a new post. Stay tuned lol

Found the coral rug recommended by S Mistry at online at Home Depot.
What do you all think? It is one sale until Dec 12!
Which colour would better. Please not there is a gray stripe in my chair?

    Number one
    This is number 2

Number 1 is gray and ivory
Number 2 is blue and beige

Oh darn posted in wrong thread! I will put it in correct sunroom thread!

I was just revisiting some tv cabinets Kathi posted a while back would this work above my current stand or would it be too much going on? It also comes in driftwood.
Probably will not do this season, need time to convince hubby but would it work?
Love it, I just saved. I know now to save right away as scrolling up later is too hard! Lol
  • 9 years ago
Thanks Idea. I do like the tv cabinet for the same reasons you mentioned. I do agree that wall looks better without anything in it but it is so uninspiring with just the box of the tv. I like the white myself too as I love how white looks against the walls and maybe sticking with white it may sort of resemble a picture window?
I have not ordered the shoe cabinet yet. While I really want to hide the shoes I am thinking maybe a very narrow open console table on the wall opposite the door with a mirror above is more of what I want.
I did mention to hubby about removing the other mirror.
While he was annoyed he said he would put a row of hooks on the back of the door! I absolutely do not want that so I will gently stear him away from that. Small hooks beside the door. I did find a wall corner hook I think from pottery barn a while back. I thought maybe that in corner behind door. I will try and find it to show. It may be to busy. I still may order the shoe cabinet today. I just want to check thin console looks first. Hubby and I had decided shoe cabinet in Canada but changed our mind but then ended up putting too much there anyways lol. So may go back to just shoe cabinet...just need to think on it for a bit

Idea, when I researched the blue knobs I realized they have silver bottoms so you are correct my handles may look ok. I love the white distressed too that you posted but I want to stay away from little groves etc as they are harder to clean. Even though we are retired in both homes. Here is our fun home, don't want to clean just want to go out and enjoy the weather. :)
Maybe today I will go and try and find one Blue knob somewhere to try before I order them. I think they will look good though. Blue glass anything it pretty to me!
I have a diy of something else I am doing for the console table. I will show if it works! If a fail I will toss it!

I am ok with the kitchen lights as is until I find just the right ones. We did find clear ones we liked with the bubbles like the glass but after we got home realized the pendant rods on them would not work with our ceilings. I will always need the chain ones or a base that swivels because of the slanted ceilings. I think we have the same issue with all of the lights and ceiling fans.
The only other light I really hate is the foyer. There I need a light no longer than 17 inches long including how it's attached.
Again it is a slanted ceiling so it must have even one link of chain or a pivoting base. :). Maybe in silver or beachy or blue glass to complement the kitchen
  • 9 years ago
I am open to any ideas or suggestions. Would prefer not a pendant type with just a lightbulb etc as it should look ok when looking up too. Like the one that is there but just more attractive or I wonder if paint would help the current one?

    Current light pic
Yes ideahound and you all any ideas with the kitchen would be appreciated. What to put on or take off counters etc. I do not intend to replace the cabinets or countertops etc. any other ideas appreciate though.
Thanks again let me know if you all need diff or more pics or have any questions.
Hi all I just received email from pottery barn. What do you all think of this light for foyer? It meets our criteria for size etc. we both like it.
I was thinking of ordering. What do you think?

I don't think the light works. What about a lantern pendant?

I love the lantern pendants (no glass) or the sphere ones. Either would be my first choice in brushed nickel or i don't know what it is called but it is kinda gold kinda silver.

I just have not found one yet that comes in under 17 inches tall once installed yet big enough not to look too small there

I will keep looking then and not order the pottery barn one. :)
Found this lantern pendant 47% off. We both like it. It is the correct size.
I would order the bushed nickel as pictured.
Hubby could spray paint the metal of our kitchen ones brushed nickel as well.
    What do you think!

Is that big enough? If so its nice

I'm not sure Idea about the speed. I am just on my iPhone and it seems ok.

S Mistry the light is the same height as what we have now. It is a couple of inches smaller in depth but I am hoping it works ok as I feel the one that is there now looks clunky and heavy for such a small space. In some of the online pics of the light it looks like good in foyers that are larger than mine so I am hoping it works.
So cute! I can't sleep! The lights are beautiful :) I love the glass of the shade on the white one.
All the lights were very pretty Idea! Unfortunately they are all too long. :( The door has to open there.
I have something in mind for the hall though. If it does not work I will revisit these. :)
