Tuscan Blue Design was brought into this project (house addition) when the client realized she needed a creative-functional-layout for her new kitchen. The first thing the client said to us was that she wanted to see the view out the bay window as she cooked in her kitchen...that led to the idea of two functional islands instead of perimeter cabinetry. She was drawn to farmhouse style kitchens but didn't want her space to feel 'country'. The kitchen, breakfast room and family room are all open to one another. The kitchen has a large twelve foot island topped with Calacatta marble and features a roll-out kneading table, and room to seat the whole family. The sunlight breakfast room opens onto the patio which has a built-in barbeque, and both bar top seating and a built in bench for outdoor dining. The large family room features a cozy fireplace, TV media, and a large built-in bookcase. The adjoining craft room is separated by a set of pocket french doors; where the kids can be visible from the family room as they do their homework.

The new floor plan design made more effective use of the space, accommodating multiple renovation needs into the kitchen. The new layout created an open galley kitchen with a 13 1/2′ Island with seating at each end, a cool-grey custom banquette with 2 tables.

This clean and classic Northern Westchester kitchen features a mix of colors and finishes. The perimeter of the kitchen including the desk area is painted in Benjamin Moore’s Nordic White with satin chrome hardware. The island features Benjamin Moore’s Blue Toile with satin brass hardware. The focal point of the space is the Cornu Fe range and custom hood in satin black with brass and chrome trim. Crisp white subway tile covers the backwall behind the cooking area and all the way up the sink wall to the ceiling. In place of wall cabinets, the client opted for thick white open shelves on either side of the window above the sink to keep the space more open and airier. Countertops are a mix of Neolith’s Estatuario on the island and Ash Grey marble on the perimeter. Hanging above the island are Circa Lighting’s the “Hicks Large Pendants” by designer Thomas O’Brien; above the dining table is Tom Dixon’s “Fat Pendant”. Just off of the kitchen is a wet bar conveniently located next to the living area, perfect for entertaining guests. They opted for a contemporary look in the space. The cabinetry is Yosemite Bronzato laminate in a high gloss finish coupled with open glass shelves and a mirrored backsplash. This Houston kitchen remodel turned an outdated bachelor pad into a contemporary dream fit for newlyweds. The client wanted a contemporary, somewhat commercial look, but also something homey with a comfy, family feel. And they couldn't go too contemporary, since the style of the home is so traditional. The clean, contemporary, white-black-and-grey color scheme is just the beginning of this transformation from the previous kitchen, The revamped 20-by-15-foot kitchen and adjoining dining area also features new stainless steel appliances by Maytag, lighting and furnishings by Restoration Hardware and countertops in white Carrara marble and Absolute Black honed granite. The paneled oak cabinets are now painted a crisp, bright white and finished off with polished nickel pulls. The center island is now a cool grey a few shades darker than the warm grey on the walls. On top of the grey on the new sheetrock, previously covered in a camel-colored textured paint, is Sherwin Williams' Faux Impressions sparkly "Striae Quartz Stone." Ho-hum 12-inch ceramic floor tiles with a western motif border have been replaced with grey tile "planks" resembling distressed wood. An oak-paneled flush-mount light fixture has given way to recessed lights and barn pendant lamps in oil rubbed bronze from Restoration Hardware. And the section housing clunky upper and lower banks of cabinets between the kitchen an dining area now has a sleek counter-turned-table with custom-milled legs. At first, the client wanted to open up that section altogether, but then realized they needed more counter space. The table - a continuation of the granite countertop - was the perfect solution. Plus, it offered space for extra seating. The black, high-back and low-back bar stools are also from Restoration Hardware - as is the new round chandelier and the dining table over which it hangs. Outdoor Homescapes of Houston also took out a wall between the kitchen and living room and remodeled the adjoining living room as well. A decorative cedar beam stained Minwax Jacobean now spans the ceiling where the wall once stood. The oak paneling and stairway railings in the living room, meanwhile, also got a coat of white paint and new window treatments and light fixtures from Restoration Hardware. Staining the top handrailing with the same Jacobean dark stain, however, boosted the new contemporary look even more. The outdoor living space also got a revamp, with a new patio ceiling also stained Jacobean and new outdoor furniture and outdoor area rug from Restoration Hardware. The furniture is from the Klismos collection, in weathered zinc, with Sunbrella fabric in the color "Smoke."

The client was recently widowed and had been wanting to remodel her kitchen for a long time. Although the floor plan of the space remained the same, the kitchen received a major makeover in terms of aesthetic and function to fit the style and needs of the client and her small dog in this water front residence. The peninsula was brought down in height to achieve a more spacious and inviting feel into the living space and patio facing the water. Shades of gray were used to veer away from the all white kitchen and adding a dark gray entertainment unit really added drama to the space. Sometimes the simplest things can be some of the most challenging. We built the base and top of this out of solid white oak. The shape seems simple enough but the way this is built required 48 different sides to line up nicely on the pedestal with floating mortise and tenon joinery to support it. All that on compound angles that are tapered. The top is connected and supported via steel c channels that are recessed into the table top. This has the added benefit of keeping the table top flat on over the large cantilever. A lot of math and planning but the end result was so amazing to see come together. And the space that it sat in was such a wonderful backdrop. We couldn't be happier with it. As with all of our pieces, this custom dining table was hand made in San Diego, CA.
