A large detached garage is converted into a spacious, modern, and minimal guest suite with a private bedroom, bathroom, kitchen, and fireplace. Added privacy is provided in the bedroom by a mid-century inspired built-in shelving unit. The juniper wood paneled ceiling brings in a calming character to the space.

Landmark Remodeling partnered on us with this basement project in Minnetonka. Long-time, returning clients wanted a family hang out space, equipped with a fireplace, wet bar, bathroom, workout room and guest bedroom. They loved the idea of adding value to their home, but loved the idea of having a place for their boys to go with friends even more. We used the luxury vinyl plank from their main floor for continuity, as well as navy influences that we have incorporated around their home so far, this time in the cabinetry and vanity. This was a down to the studs interior remodel of a historic home in Boise's North End. Through an extensive Design Phase we opened up the living spaces, relocated and rearranged bathrooms, re-designed the mail level to include an Owner's Suite, and added living space in the attic. The interior of this home had not been touched for a half century and now serves the needs of a growing family with updates from attic to lower level game room. The lake level of this home was dark and dreary. Everywhere you looked, there was brown... dark brown painted window casings, door casings, and baseboards... brown stained concrete (in bad shape), brown wood countertops, brown backsplash tile, and black cabinetry. We refinished the concrete floor into a beautiful water blue, removed the rustic stone fireplace and created a beautiful quartzite stone surround, used quartzite countertops that flow with the new marble mosaic backsplash, lightened up the cabinetry in a soft gray, and added lots of layers of color in the furnishings. The result is was a fun space to hang out with family and friends. We added grey grasscloth wallpaper as well as Sherwin Williams ceiling and wall paint in the adjacent spaces. The new blackout roman shades control light as required for the new VPL-VW1100ES Sony 4K projector. We custom designed the new cabinetry and concealed all of the new AV equipment inside. The red sectional adds a pop of color and fun in this neutral colored room. The new custom upholstered axis chair and accent tables play well with the new lighting that we incorporated. We added a floating breakfast nook in the dining room area to create storage and a place for our client's to set an array of appetizers and treats when entertaining family and friends.

This basement finish was already finished when we started. The owners decided they wanted an entire face lift with a more in style look. We removed all the previous finishes and basically started over adding ceiling details and an additional workout room. Complete with a home theater, wine tasting area and game room.

A focal aspect of the 221 square-foot addition is its stairway. Beyond its newel post, the railing ribbons up to the second floor, bridging over the doorway. The resulting open space, canopied above the foyer contributes to an airy atmosphere, allowing natural light to sprawl throughout the entry space and to the private second-floor family area. The new windows further add buoyancy and sunlight. The addition also provided an opportunity to move the powder room to a more discreet location adjacent to the dining room. On the outside of the home, the entry addition introduces a gambrel form, drawing from and repurposing the design of the original structure. Despite its modest size, the addition transformed the entry of the home and its first impression, communicating openness and warmth within first acquainting steps.

When our client bought this house, it was stuck in limbo between the traditional interior and a 90's modern structure. The direction we took was a combination of calm beige color scheme with clean lines and smooth surfaces. The continuation of the same materials throughout the house finally bonded all the different spaces into a singular home. The two guest bathrooms were made with Cloe zellige style tiles and custom floating vanities made from white oak. The same oak was used also for the built-in TV wall as floating shelves and base cabinets with a large, tiled center piece for the recessed TV and the electric fireplace. The kitchen also received some of the white oak love in the form of the Island and the recessed cooking area. The biggest issue with the kitchen space was the lack of proportions between the width and its length vs. the extreme height of the vaulted ceiling. The solution I came up with was a secondary line of wall cabinets to be the same depth as the full height units to create a wrap around and make the space more proportionate. Continuing to the master bathroom, here we have a true walk-in master bath suite, no door needed with this size of space. All the walls received porcelain semi slab treatment. (72x36 porcelain tile) a lot of work went into selecting the correct tile pieces to give it the effect of a single slab installation but without the added cost. All fixtures are by Kohler with their fantastic modern gold finish. The result was a perfect flow of calm beige colors and warmth of natural wood throughout.

Our client fell in love with the original 80s style of this house. However, no part of it had been updated since it was built in 1981. Both the style and structure of the home needed to be drastically updated to turn this house into our client’s dream modern home. We are also excited to announce that this renovation has transformed this 80s house into a multiple award-winning home, including a major award for Renovator of the Year from the Vancouver Island Building Excellence Awards. The original layout for this home was certainly unique. In addition, there was wall-to-wall carpeting (even in the bathroom!) and a poorly maintained exterior. There were several goals for the Modern Revival home. A new covered parking area, a more appropriate front entry, and a revised layout were all necessary. Therefore, it needed to have square footage added on as well as a complete interior renovation. One of the client’s key goals was to revive the modern 80s style that she grew up loving. Alfresco Living Design and A. Willie Design worked with Made to Last to help the client find creative solutions to their goals.

This major renovation included an addition, adding 230 square feet with a large new great room, and tied the home together by evening out the floor level in a sunken living room and office. The main floor space was updated with new finishes and all new windows and doors, including a totally remodelled kitchen, laundry room, and bathroom.
