VISION AND NEEDS:
Our client came to us with a vision for their dream house for their growing family with three young children. This was their second attempt at getting the right design. The first time around, after working with an out-of-state online architect, they could not achieve the level of quality they wanted. McHugh delivered a home with higher quality design.
MCHUGH SOLUTION:
The Shingle/Dutch Colonial Design was our client's dream home style. Their priorities were to have a home office for both parents. Ample living space for kids and friends, along with outdoor space and a pool. Double sink bathroom for the kids and a master bedroom with bath for the parents. Despite being close a flood zone, clients could have a fully finished basement with 9ft ceilings and a full attic. Because of the higher water table, the first floor was considerably above grade. To soften the ascent of the front walkway, we designed planters around the stairs, leading up to the porch.

Using custom built mirrors, bronze metal accents, natural travertine floors and combined wood species in this bathroom remodel allows for vibrant colors and smooth, sleek textures. The goal of the vanity design was to incorporate separate free standing units with ample storage in between. We added a separate water closet with additional storage to free up more vanity space. The slate tile shower with its massive frosted glass door and the integrated transom light allow bright natural light to flow in. A built-in ledge in the shower incorporates into the design a simple solution for storing shampoo bottles and soap.

Complete Hillside Backyard Renovation, El Paso – by GoDesigns
This breathtaking backyard transformation in the historic area of El Paso, Texas, is a shining example of GoDesigns’ vision, expertise, and resilience. Situated on a challenging hillside property, the original backyard installed in 2005 was plagued by critical design flaws that led to a complete failure of the outdoor space. The existing negative edge pool, improperly installed with insufficient grade, drainage, and support, caused massive water loss and structural issues. The consequences were severe — the side rock wall broke in half, the backyard destabilized, and even a portion of the house was compromised.
GoDesigns was brought in to turn crisis into opportunity. During the height of COVID-19, they launched Phase 1 of a multi-phase master plan to restore and reinvent the space. The entire backyard was demolished, including the compromised pool shell. The broken negative edge section was filled in, making way for a reimagined pool design. A new, reinforced pool structure was shot, finished with 5cm tumbled travertine coping, oversized mossrock boulders, new waterline tile, and a premium PebbleTec interior.
Beneath the beauty lies smart engineering: GoDesigns replaced all plumbing and regraded the property, applying subsurface remediation and compaction techniques to ensure long-term stability. A new rocksalt steel reinforced concrete deck was poured, replacing the narrow wraparound layout with a spacious, functional outdoor living area. Now, the family enjoys ample room for chaise lounges, alfresco dining, and relaxing by the existing outdoor fireplace — luxuries they never had before.
GoDesigns didn’t stop there. Advanced drainage systems — including underground piping, box drains, and planter drains — were installed to protect the integrity of the hillside. These systems are integrated into leveled planters that not only beautify the space but also reinforce the structure of the pool and surrounding terrain.
Phase 2 focused on upgrading the patio directly outside the main house, while Phase 3 was the final touch — a lush landscape planting plan paired with elegant outdoor lighting to enhance ambiance and curb appeal.
What was once a scene of despair is now a luxurious retreat — completed in thoughtfully timed phases over four years. Thanks to GoDesigns’ master planning and unwavering commitment, this hillside haven is a true testament to transformation. The clients are now looking forward to their next chapter: the front yard.

Upon purchasing their new home, the homeowners were faced with a backyard that was entirely overgrown and not fit for use. With aspirations of extending their indoor living to the outdoors, they envisioned adding a pool to cater to their family's love for swimming and their fondness for hosting gatherings. The final design transformed the space into a highly functional and fashionable outdoor oasis, featuring a pool and spa complemented by a natural rock water feature, a Trex sun deck, a cozy fire pit with ample seating, a BBQ island complete with a bar top for outdoor dining, and a spacious covered patio attached to the back of the house.

Welcome to the Royal floorplan at Delta Coves - a one-story haven with a flexible bonus. This design offers everything you need on the main floor, with an open floorplan that seamlessly connects the great room, dining room, and kitchen to the outdoor living space.
The kitchen is a chef's dream, boasting ample cabinet space, a walk-in pantry, and an island equipped with a sink and dishwasher. The main floor can also be extended towards the water, opening up to the outdoors with double sliders for a breathtaking view.
The rear corner of the house is the sanctuary of the master suite, complete with a walk-in closet, spacious master bath, and stunning views overlooking the lagoon. The front of the home features a covered porch that frames the entryway, and a second bedroom nestled in the front corner.
The upstairs crown of the home offers flexibility to cater to your needs. Whether you envision an art studio, game room, or private guest space, this area can be tailored to your liking. It can be built as a loft with a bathroom, a third bedroom, or both, and features its own slider with a deck.
The Royal floorplan at Delta Coves combines functionality, flexibility, and stunning views, offering an unparalleled living experience.

The original house which was located here had been in the family for several decades, used as a summer house and then altered to have another rental unit below. A family member then took on the task of renovating this house, originally the design process included saving the existing building due to location issues, however it was then allowed to be built completely new which then put it under new guidelines to raise it out of any potential high water zones. The new house borrowed the compact gambrel roof lines from the original Beach bungalow. However this historic family home took advantage of all views and solar exposure. The new layout features a one story, 3 bedroom unit on the garden level with a 2 story, 3 bedroom unit above it so all the relatives can stay together. The goal was to provide a flexible and energy efficient design with ample light and cross ventilation for all bedrooms.

To soften the ascent of the front walkway, we designed planters around the stairs, leading up to the porch.

The client approached us with a clear vision in mind for their kitchen in Fraserburgh: an open-plan, modern design that would accommodate their large family. Essential to this vision was the integration of an island, complete with a secondary eating area. This space was not only to be visually appealing but also functionally efficient, as it would need to cater to family gatherings and daily activities. The desire for ample seating and a spacious table, along with additional specific storage solutions, set the stage for our design choices.
Drawing inspiration from the client's requirements, we opted for the Nolte Feel range, complemented by Silver MatrixArt handleless trims. The primary colour for the furniture was chosen as white, with a contrasting accent in Feel Lava to add a touch of modern sophistication. To further enhance the open feel, we made structural modifications: the existing kitchen window was lowered to usher in more natural light and provide an improved viewing angle. Additionally, the entrance to the sun lounge was broadened to foster a more expansive atmosphere.
A kitchen's functionality is determined largely by its worktops and appliances. For this space, we used a sturdy 40mm thick Nolte Silver Ash worktop, providing both durability and style. In terms of appliances, we decided upon NEFF's range, which included a single oven, combination microwave, induction hob, and ceiling extraction, ensuring the client's culinary needs were well catered for.
Recognising the family's unique requirements, we introduced several bespoke features. The Blanco Metra sink in Tartufo and the Quooker Fusion Square Stainless Steel instant boiling water tap combined functionality with modern aesthetics. With the client's large family in mind, we constructed a matching Nolte table and a built-in seating bench replete with storage drawers, maximising both seating and storage. Additionally, a custom-built unit for log storage was designed, mirroring the style of the kitchen, to serve their log-burning stove. The flooring, using Quickstep Arte, tied everything together, adding a touch of elegance to the room.

The Interior Design
With bright white walls as a jumping off point, accent colors of gray blue, blush and plum add in something for everyone. Dark woods ground the design and pops of metallic gold add interest and flair. Cozy soft goods and bedding soften the space making it approachable and welcoming for the whole family to grow into and enjoy together for many years.

This master bathroom received a major update in a clean and transitional style. The original bathroom had a large drop-in tub with a small enclosed shower and an angled, wrap-around counter with under-mount sinks. The new design eliminated the tub, which was rarely if ever used, and replaced it with a large and spacious, curbless shower with a crisp and clean tile design. The vanities were separated into his and hers spaces with plenty of storage unique to each of the couple's needs. The closet also received a refresh with a sleek closet system to better fit storage needs, new carpet, and ample lighting.

To achieve the gourmet kitchen of this homeowner's dreams, we removed a walk-in pantry in favour of additional perimeter cabinetry, extended to the ceiling and adding glass inserts to showcase their favourite pieces. The island was also elongated to add additional seating, integrating the adjacent seating area to create one large kitchen space.
The existing basement had the furnace, hot water tank and plumbing located at the foot of the stairs, with a narrow stairway entry. When designing the finished space, we first carefully reconsidered the home's mechanical systems. Relocating and enclosing them within one dedicated room created the opportunity for open concept living at the base of the stairs, while maintaining ample space for a new bedroom and three-piece bathroom.
