The stylistic analysis of the context is inspired by the classicism of casual modernism. From outside, the house has a peaceful quality; simple white walls with effortless openings. In many ways, it's like a person. Though deceivingly modest from the street view, the inside is colossal as a result of the way the design builds into the lush green landscape. . The appearance of the house is adorned by details such as the courtyards, the segregation of the social and private spaces and the volumetric play of the interior ceilings. This gives integrity and individuality to each space

A visual artist and his fiancée’s house and studio were designed with various themes in mind, such as the physical context, client needs, security, and a limited budget. Six options were analyzed during the schematic design stage to control the wind from the northeast, sunlight, light quality, cost, energy, and specific operating expenses. By using design performance tools and technologies such as Fluid Dynamics, Energy Consumption Analysis, Material Life Cycle Assessment, and Climate Analysis, sustainable strategies were identified. The building is self-sufficient and will provide the site with an aquifer recharge that does not currently exist. The main masses are distributed around a courtyard, creating a moderately open construction towards the interior and closed to the outside. The courtyard contains a Huizache tree, surrounded by a water mirror that refreshes and forms a central part of the courtyard. The house comprises three main volumes, each oriented at different angles to highlight different views for each area. The patio is the primary circulation stratagem, providing a refuge from the wind, a connection to the sky, and a night sky observatory. We aim to establish a deep relationship with the site by including the open space of the patio.

This 19th c. waterfront farmhouse addition to a included a new kitchen/dining space on the first floor. The small one story wing has a hot tub. The second floor were bedroom spaces for guests and grandchildren.

This house project was an existing house design adapted to a site within the 100 year flood plain. Thought it was elevated over 8 feet and includes a garage under the house the landscape was designed around it to make it appear like it sat on a raised knoll.

To accommodate grandma and grandpa, the master bathroom now includes a curbless shower and a convenient spot for the wheel chair under the sink. A ramp out front for wheelchair access and hardwood floor throughout. Budget analysis and project development by: May Construction

We gutted the whole house down to the studs and removed the ancient brick fireplace, replaced with a large window to allow beautiful views of the garden and natural light to pour in. By changing the location of the laundry room to the back of the house and moving the kitchen to the opposite corner we were able to open the space and change the entire house layout dramatically.
