The mountain hillside was re-graded and supplemented with additional boulders to create a waterfall and meandering streambed, around and over which the flagstone paths are integrated. Existing natural vegetation was augmented with a variety of ornamental plant textures and colors.

Standing resolute in the diligent Atlantic breezes, the Regency Tower condominiums have been a mainstay in the material culture of this New Jersey oceanside community. Our approach to the redesign of the building pediment compliments the resilience of its original construction and augments its present aesthetic. This “Boardwalk Canopy” concept is envisioned as an elegant revitalization of the Porte Cochere (canopy) and corresponding ground-scapes. We understand that the existing canopy is both an element of shelter and salient in accentuating the character of the existing edifice. Since the existing function of the Regency’s Porte Cochere is to provide covered entrance for inhabitants and visitors, our design proposal reinterprets this element as a figuratively organic ext4ntion of the boardwalk. Striking a sensitive relationship with the social theatre of place, the 5200 Boardwalk Canopy design generates a new linear and vertical continuity in gesture and form, while redefining a visual hierarchy for the pediment. The simple palette facilitates wayfinding and specifies a timeless and durable visual statement that engages with the Regency’s latent character. We believe this design presents a unique and identifiable reimagining of a building that has well withstood the test of time. Comprehensive architecture working drawings can be provided upon award of the commission.

THEME Every element of this room evokes images from the Enchanted Forest. Tiny lights twinkle like fireflies; curtains swing from real tree limbs and sticker stones lay a pathway to the bed. Ceramic mushrooms and birdhouses are scattered throughout the room, creating perfect hiding spots for fairies, pixies and other magical friends. The dominant color of both bedroom and bathroom — a soft, feminine pink — creates a soothing, yet wondrous atmosphere. In the corner sits a large tree with a child-size door at the base, promising a child-size adventure on the other side. FOCUS Illuminated by two beautiful flower-shaped lamps, the six-footdiameter circular bed becomes the centerpiece of the room. Imitation bark on the bed’s exterior augments the room’s theme and makes it easy for a child to believe they have stepped out of the suburbs and into the forest. Three lily pads extending from tree bark serve as both steps to the bed and stools to sit on. Ready-made for princess parties and sleepovers, the bed easily accommodates two to three small children or an adult. Twelvefoot ceilings enhance the sense of openness, while soft lighting and comfy pillows make this a cozy reading and resting spot. STORAGE The shelves on the rear of the bed and the two compartments in the tree — one covered by a doubledoor, the other by a miniature door — supplement the storage capacity of the room’s giant closet without interrupting the theme. GROWTH The bed meets standard specifications for a baby crib, and can accommodate both children and adults. The railing is easily removed when baby girl becomes a “big girl,” and eventually, a teenager. SAFETY Rounded edges on all of the room’s furnishings help prevent nasty bumps, and lamps are positioned well out-of-reach of small children. The mattress is designed to fit snugly to meet current crib safety standards, while a 26-inch railing allows this bed to act as a safe, comfortable and fun play area.

Closet was added to augment the storage areas of the bathroom.

This architectural project exudes the timeless elegance of a French Country home. The classic style construction, augmented by eighteenth-century wood windows, stands as an epitome of luxurious living, nestled amidst the tranquility of the French countryside.

A fantastic and cute remodel and addition to a small single story home. The main challenge with this home is that the property is in a flood zone and the home was originally built too low to the ground. So part of the construction process will involve raising up the original floor level and augmenting the existing foundations to support the higher floor level.
Outside of that small challenge, this remodel and addition came together really easily for my wonderful clients. Their main focus was to get as large of a great room as possible with a huge open kitchen, dining, and family room. The bedrooms are somewhat smaller to accommodate that request, but I was at least able to incorporate a home office for the work-from-home couple.

We had the pleasure of working with the new homeowners to design further improvements to the house necessitated by their growing family. We added a porte cochere, a family-room, and increased the ceiling height in their master bedroom. These improvements augmented our design work previously completed in 2008, and the house continues to be a blend of traditional old-house details with modern, contemporary furnishings that perfectly suite a family with young children.

The front elevation of this house consists of the original 1910 farmhouse. The rest of the house had been augmented incrementally over time and the roofline beyond the original structure had become convoluted and the flanking elevations nonsensical. The current owners preserved the original 1910 farmhouse portion of the home and took the rest of the structure down to the foundation. A simple modern black barn was designed to run perpendicular with the old farmhouse structure and painted black in stark contrast to its old, white counterpart. Siding runs vertically on the new section as opposed to the horizontal shiplapped siding on the old. The new structure houses the kitchen with 12’ cathedral ceilings, a pantry / mudroom and a study.
The kitchen boasts a 1930’s island reclaimed from a commercial bakery and pendant lights from an old schoolhouse in Ohio as its nucleus, against a quiet backdrop of black stained oak cabinetry. Gently veined quartzite slabs serve as countertop, backsplash and wrap the stove hood to accentuate the ceiling height.
The interior design of this home is a carefully balanced alchemy of antiquity and modernity. It has an overriding monochromatic theme with layers of pattern and texture for depth. The color interest is derived from the lush outside landscape, with the exception of their daughter’s bedroom which is a tasteful symphony of pink, landed by a hand painted mural.
The theme of the home is framed around comfortable family living against curated backdrops of beloved collected items. The living room boasts no less than nineteen vintage crystal

This home is dedicated to the idea that beauty can be found in the artistic expression of hand-made processes. The project included rigorous material research and close partnership with local craftspeople in order to realize the final architecture. The timeless quality of this collaboration is most visible in the ribbon stair and the raked stucco walls on the exterior facade. Working hand in hand with local artisans, layers of wood and plaster were stapled, raked, sanded, bent, and laminated in order to realize the curve of the stair and the precise lines of the facade.
In contrast to the manipulation of materials, a garden courtyard and spa add an intimate experience of nature within the heart of the home. The concealed space is a case study in contrast from the lush vegetation against the stark steel, to the shallow hot plunge and six-foot deep cold plunge. The result is a home that elevates the integrity of local craft and the refreshment of nature’s touch to augment a lifestyle dedicated to health, artistry, and authenticity.

The first floor offers an open-plan kitchen, living and dining area, augmented by a bedroom and a full bath. Upstairs, in addition to the two guest bedrooms and full bath, is a large master suite with high ceilings, a truly voluminous walk-in closet and a marble-trimmed bath with double sinks and ample storage.

The clients wanted a visually quiet property which is tucked in the far corner of a hay field in rural NW Connecticut. Drilled Geothermal Wells which augment the heat and provide considerable benefit for the Air Conditioning are in the field. The roof faces very close to magnetic south. The building sits in what is now (regulations adopted late) in a wetlands setting. We were able to deliver a full and dry basement in spite of that.

From Cramped and Awkward to Delightfully Spacious.
We recently completed a project for a client in Bronxville NY, who had purchased a newly renovated home. Among its new features was a less than inspiring builder grade kitchen. Nothing in this misguided renovation was to the new owners taste, nor did it function well. Out went the “Box Store” cabinets and laminate counters, as well as the awkward wall that shoved the refrigerator into an odd corner. At our suggestion, the client switched the locations of the family room and the dining room, placing the dining room now as part of the kitchen and allowing for much better flow. The old layout was replaced with a much more workable “L” shape, augmented by a spacious island.
The microwave relocated from over the range to a much better placement in the island, enabled us to include a beautiful hood, creating a lovely focal point. Painted Mouser cabinets and granite countertops complete the look. Now the kitchen functions much more efficiently and looks fabulous!

Upon entering the front courtyard, you are greeted by dual koi ponds augmented by Pine Trees, an amalgamation of moss to help create the soft feel of the Pacific Northwest where the client is originally from.
