Originally this farmhouse had a summer kitchen and did not have one inside the home. Back in the 60's this home had a small addition with a galley kitchen that one person could cook in the space. With the new owners of this home, they wanted this space to be welcoming to all of their family and friends to be apart of the cooking and conversations. So they asked us to help them open up the space. We said lets take out the walls and create your dream kitchen! With a structural engineer, we were able to safely take out the walls and make a stunning space that the whole family can enjoy! This kitchen also has storage on the backside of the island to store all of the extras! And a faux beam over the structural beam helps tie in the warmth that the client wanted in their home. The oil rubbed bronze hardware really creates a finished look.

This expansive custom home sits on a hilltop overlooking a small valley with a full walk-out in-laws unit below. Along the backside of the house is a continuous covered patio with exposed trusses.

Designed by Reico Kitchen & Bath in Falls Church, VA in collaboration with contractor Mark Malone, this contemporary inspired kitchen design features Ultracraft Cabinetry in the Slab door style in two finishes.
The base cabinets and standard height level wall cabinets features a Natural Bamboo finish. The stacked wall cabinets above standard white are in a Seneca White finish. Kitchen countertops are Cambria in the color Ferndale.
Additional products not supplied by Reico for this project include: Fireclay Tile 2x8 Peabody Green subway tile backsplash; Mac and Milo Allessandra 1-light Single Bell pendant lights over the peninsula; and a WAC Lighting 35" wide integrated LED chandelier from Lamps Unlimited.
The kitchen also features storage and access on the backside of the kitchen peninsula, where the back of the sink base has been modified to allow for custom access and a cabinet has been installed just to the left of the sink base.
The design was created to maximize the space available, which led to removing a wall and a window while adding skylights to allow for an abundance of natural light in the space. The contractor even added a custom matching knee wall from the cabinet materials, keeping with the overall clean lines and natural wood look of the kitchen.

Before we remodeled this space, the kitchen cabinetry had a deep-dark stain, standard builder finishes, and could use a little makeover. Overall, the space lacked excitement, finesse, and good layout. So, in order to maximize the space to its full potential, we incorporated a new kitchen island which would give the space more storage, counter space, and we could include a wine unit! Win-win! Plus, the existing cabinetry on the perimeter was in great condition, so we could refinish those and have a little more fun with the other finishes of the space. Want to see what we did? Take a look below!
Cabinetry
As mentioned above, the cabinetry on the perimeter was refinished with white paint. The new island we installed cabinetry from WWWoods Shiloh, with a Heritage door style, and a finish of Arctic paint.
Countertops
The countertops feature a beautiful 3 cm Caesarstone Quartz in Symphony Grey. We also incorporated a waterfall on the edge, adding that extra element of design.
Backsplash
From the Glazzio Gemstone Series, we installed a Glacier Onyx 3” x 12” as the main backsplash tile and on the backside of the island. As a picture frame over the sink, we installed a Daltile Contempo White Polished marble pencil rail, with a Daltile Carrara White 1”x random marble Mosaic inside the frame.
Fixtures
From Blanco we have installed a Quatrus R0 Super Single Bowl sink, and a BLANCOCULINA semiprofessional kitchen faucet in satin nickel. The hardware cabinetry is the It Pull in Modern Bronze from Atlas.
Flooring
The new flooring is a hardwood oak, that’s been sanded and finished.

A multipanel sliding glass door system and full height windows on the backside of the home give it views from every room.

This kitchen design was planned with entertaining in mind. Casual dining with custom built in bench seats and bar top seating. Complete with wine fridge and wine storage above. Built in hood fan with upper and lower cabinet lighting. USB plug under table at the bench seat. Built in under cabinet microwave and extra open shelving on backside of bench seat. Instant hot water dispenser and black double Silgranite sink. Additional pullout cooking utensil drawer and spice rack. Frosted linear windows.

This kitchen was a huge transformation. Dark luxury vinyl plank flooring from the back door through the kitchen. Off white cabinets, deep blue island and light countertops. White subway tile along the perimeter cabinets, with an accent tile behind the stainless steel hood and above the range.
Before, the kitchen was outdated and was very closed off from the living room. The homeowners wanted to open the space up so it was a great space for entertaining. In order to optimize the space and make this happen, we did a few things..
1) Removed the wall separating the kitchen from the dining room
2) Removal of the ceiling in the kitchen and dining room so it was one level and height maximized
3) Drywalled in a window that was out to the 3 seasons room
This allowed us to maximize the space for a lot of cabinets, storage, and functionality. The biggest feature of this new kitchen is the 10‘ wide two toned island with overhangs on all sides, allowing for 5 to 6 seats along the backside. The homeowners did a wonderful job with their selections, adding their special touches with décor and even a few projects of their own to finish out their new kitchen space!
