For our client in Palos Verdes Peninsula we replaced his pool pump,roof and installed a solar system. Before installing the solar system we replaced his old roof with a brand new roof so he can enjoy his solar for many years without the need to worry about aging of the roof and the need of a new roof in a few years. Since the roof is S-tile we installed composition shingles on the areas under the solar to achieve a “sunk-in” look of the solar panels which is best look for tile roofs in general and provides extra comfort as far as waterproofing. This 11.8 KW DC solar system is set to offset clients bill entirely and provide many years of savings on electric bills as well as increase property value.

This Lake Washington carriage house needed more functional living space, more natural light, and a whole new heating system for both levels of the home, and separate spaces for hobbies and interests. Clients wanted to save money on energy bills and were interested in low maintenance, preserving and refinishing throughout the project, low/no VOC materials. This was an exciting proposition as it was one of the last surviving bayside double lots on the scenic Coronado peninsula in San Diego. They desired a holiday home that would be a gathering place for their large, close- knit family. They desired a holiday home that would be a gathering place for their large, close-knit family. Facing the Back Bay, overlooking downtown and the Bay Bridge, this property presented us with a unique opportunity to design a vacation home with a dual personality. One side faces a bustling harbor with a constant parade of yachts, cargo vessels and military ships while the other opens onto a deep, quiet contemplative garden. The home’s shingle-style influence carries on the historical Coronado tradition of clapboard and Craftsman bungalows built in the shadow of the great Hotel Del Coronado which was erected at the turn of the last century. In order to create an informal feel to the residence, we devised a concept that eliminated the need for a “front door”. Instead, one walks through the garden and enters the “Great Hall” through either one of two French doors flanking a walk-in stone fireplace. Both two-story bedroom wings bookend this central wood beam vaulted room which serves as the “heart of the home”, and opens to both views. Three sets of stairs are discretely tucked away inside the bedroom wings. In lieu of a formal dining room, the family convenes and dines around a beautiful table and banquette set into a circular window bay off the kitchen which overlooks the lights of the city beyond the harbor. Working with noted interior designer Betty Ann Marshall, we designed a unique kitchen that was inspired by the colors and textures of a fossil the couple found on a honeymoon trip to the quarries of Montana. We set that ancient fossil into a matte glass backsplash behind the professional cook’s stove. A warm library with walnut paneling and a bayed window seat affords a refuge for the family to read or play board games. The couple’s fine craft and folk art collection is on prominent display throughout the house and helps to set an intimate and whimsical tone. Another architectural feature devoted to family is the play room lit by a dramatic cupola which beacons the older grandchildren and their friends. Below the play room is a four car garage that allows the patriarch space to refurbish an antique fire truck, a mahogany launch boat and several vintage cars. Their jet skis and kayaks are housed in another garage designed for that purpose. Lattice covered skylights that allow dappled sunlight to bathe the loggia affords a comfortable refuge to watch the kids swim and gaze out upon the rushing water, the Coronado Bay Bridge and the romantic downtown San Diego skyline. This beautiful study was part of a whole house design and renovation by Haven Design and Construction. For this room, our objective was to create a feminine and sophisticated study for our client. She requested a design that was unique and fresh, but still warm and inviting. We wallpapered the back of the bookcases in an eye catching metallic vine pattern to add a feminine touch. Then, we selected a deep gray tone from the wallpaper and painted the bookcases and wainscoting in this striking color. We replaced the carpet with a light wood flooring that compliments the gray woodwork. Our client preferred a petite desk, just large enough for paying bills or working on her laptop, so our first furniture selection was a lovely black desk with feminine curved detailing and delicate star hardware. The room still needed a focal point, so we selected a striking lucite and gold chandelier to set the tone. The design was completed by a pair of gray velvet guest chairs. The gold twig pattern on the back of the chairs compliments the metallic wallpaper pattern perfectly. Finally the room was carefully detailed with unique accessories and custom bound books to fill the bookcases.

The Interior Design of this Highland Square High-rise was inspired by the client's existing Asian motif print fabric with aubergine background. A dramatic setting was created for the large expansive space with the use of aubergine for the walls. Furniture placement takes advantage of the expansive views from the 12th floor. Custom upholstery in green corduroy and aubergine chenille. Accent pillows in silk plaid and print fabrics. Playful wool felt shag rug expresses the client's joyful nature. Etagere features the client's collection of mementos and extensive music collection. Window treatment in watercolor print fabric adds an ethereal quality to the room. We worked with The Deck and Patio Company to set our client's Bullfrog Spa at 18 inches high into a new Trex composite deck. “This allows the client to sit on its edge and swing his legs across easily, then ease himself into one of the JetPak massage seats,” says Bill. “We also added a sturdy handrail to help him get in and out.”
