Hired in conjunction with John Lum Architects, RBD collaborated in the redesign of this three bedroom, four bath home for an art savvy family of four in Noe Valley. RBD's key contributions include the design and decoration of the kitchen breakfast nook, fireplace, four bathrooms and reconfiguration of the existing master bathroom and downstairs guest room/family room. The reconfiguration of the master bathroom creates a more open layout while also featuring a custom danish modern hairpin leg vanity as its focal point. Downstairs, the guest room/family room, designed for an open, one-room concept, showcases custom built-in millwork for excellent TV watching and game storage. Finishing off the space architecturally, a custom built-in walnut entry bench and coat cabinet help modestly accentuate their secondary entry into the home given this is the family's main entrance. Working on an extremely tight budget, RBD mixed low and high end finishes and fixtures to achieve a high end overall look without breaking the bank. My lovely clients asked during our first meeting to embellish and finish the windows, yet keep the light and view to the backyard. The negative space on either side of the crescent window bothered my client. After careful consideration, double swags with jabots in contrast fabric were hung from three rosettes in rose gold. J.P. Baker fabric called Eleanors Chinese showcases birds in upright and downward position. To continue the large area from family room to kitchen eat in area, we alternated relaxed romans with the swags. TROPICAL LOOKS: Canna grow well on S facing balconies in the warm weather, but must be overwintered inside in our climate. The blossoms are so vivid and cheerful! Also shown are bougainvillea, which are a lovely climbing vine which can be grown in containers; they also must be over-wintered. If you're bothered about thorns, a few thornless varieties of bougainvillea have now been developed.

Inspiration for a transitional kitchen remodel in Miami

Integrated into this custom home bar / custom bar / home bar, this steel and glass enclosed wine cellar / glass wine cellar steals the show. Completely enclosed in glass and stainless steel metal framing, this custom wine cellar is a hybrid style - with both metal wine racking and wood wine racking / metal wine racks / wood wine racks. In the upper section, metal pegs were used to store the wine bottles neck out with corks forward. This style allows for a high reveal angled display of each wine bottle, all the while ensuring that each cork remains wet and wines are stored properly for long term and graceful aging. Directly below is a sweeping row of angled high reveal display. Similar to the above metal wine rack section, the bottles are placed at a specific angle meant to maintain wet corks. The lower section includes double deep individual bottle storage in a custom dark stained alder wood. This style of wine rack is traditional and utilitarian in nature, keeping wine bottles shielded from light and most often used in longer termed storage. The Cooling unit in this wine storage room was recessed into the ceiling - utilizing a split cooling system so that the often noisy condensing unit can be placed up to 100 feet away at another location outside the house where it will not bother anyone. We're so glad our customer is thrilled with her new insect screens we installed on her patio! She says it's not her favorite room of the house. Fenetex exterior insect screens have side tracks and create a bug-proof patio to enjoy all summer long allowing them to enjoy their lakeside view without pesky insects bothering them. We installed Fenetex insect screens with Somfy 110v motors, coordinating power needs with her contractor for a seamless install. Here you see the shades lowered, and the next photo shows one raised half-way up. They provide great view through!

The program is fun and Cape Cod Lake style. Currently in the design stage. A place for family to be together and have fun. A certain amount of casual formality mixed with ultra modern. Like a high-end resort without people bothering you. A one family timeshare. Every detail and need taken care of.

These homeowners loved their neighborhood but desired a look with more details that represent a custom built home. A hail storm brought the opportunity to entirely change the curb appeal that the homeowners always desired. The odd upper bedroom window was boxed out which always bothered the homeowners so the upper wall was re-framed to create a consistent look. New architectural columns were installed on the front porch with the correct scale and look. New real cedar shakes combined with board and batton siding, natural stone and a beadboard porch ceiling along with a custom entry door give the entry a warm and inviting feel. New Marvin windows with SDL grids, custom half round gutters and new garage doors finish the cottage style the homeowners dreamed of. This project exemplifies what creative design and quality materials can do without spending more than needed.

What used to be a dated 1980's u-shaped kitchen without any flow or interest is now an open and inviting gathering space with plenty of room to cook and for everyone to sit or walk around. We squared off the bay window area making cabinets with drawers and pull-outs a possibility, plus the extra deep sink cabinet has room for a filtered water/carbonated water system. The side windows are easy to reach, and one is a pass through to the BBQ area. The island doubles as a large dining table and has a prep sink that can also be used by the bar area and refrigerator/microwave/leftovers area without bothering the chef. Also in the island is a Perlick ice maker, wicker pull out baskets for fruits and vegetable and an open bookcase for cookbooks and to tuck away school/homework supplies. All the tall items like the refrigerator, pantry and wall ovens are grouped together to one side to keep the room from getting too choppy. The bar area has a beverage refrigerator and liquor and stemware storage but also has a charging station and drop zone storage since it is next to the door coming from the garage.
